Do you really enjoy Football Manager?

Since i lost interest in my 5 season long Notts County i haven't got another game past January :S

Started a Bradford City story now though. I find that making a story which you find people are viewing and commenting on, gives you the motivation to do it. Audience pressure XD

Although it is also annoying when i get too into a game, it becomes my be all and end all of my existence :P. Washing, Eating, Uni all come behind FM when im in the zone XD

Yeah but what about when people dont comment in your stories.

If people don't comment on your stories, it can be incredibly frustrating. All I can suggest is keep posting updates and doing well. People will start to take notice and then you will find lots of people will comment. :)

Would you say you enjoy Lower League Managing more than managing in leagues like Premier League-High League One?

Must say I enjoy higher more than lower. I have no patience. XD

I prefer LLM more than HLM ;)

I find it difficult to get motivated to play FM but that's probably for a lot of reasons;

1) Boredom -

Having played it since Championship Manager 2, I've been there, done that. You name it, I've won it. It gets very difficult to maintain motivation over several years as such, regardless of the changes.

2) Movement of the game to "simulation" -

My main gripe really. The old days you could plug and play and have fun. Thesedays it's very 'simulation' driven. Which is fine, I remember posting guides and creating tactics for the community on a regular basis as the game evolved. Now though, I'm not really up to speed on it. I've argued consistently that the game is getting too 'tactic-focused'. I also argued against the Tactical theorums guides as such because once a game reaches the stage where it is dependent on such guides you're into the more 'serious/hardcore' arena (i.e. you can compare the game to Hearts of Iron, spreadsheet games etc)

I've no problem with that if it remains fun - a key issue that splits 'fans' whether they're vocal minorities or not.

3) Same old gripes...

The corner exploit is hillarious. I'm surprised no one's commented that it's sweet justice for the same old gripes throughout the series. Superkeeper, last minute goals, final 10-20 minutes flying by and the infamous "i got 500 shots, they had no shots whatsoever but they still beat me 3-0!" complaint.

I've read the SI post about it on their site, they refer to 'parameters' of their match engine but having played for so long I can't help but think those incidents are 'forced' on the player to make up for the limits of the engine - if you find a way to get 7 clear cut one on ones and lose to one fluky shot repeatedly throughout the season it's a limitation - yet only exploits to be taken advantage of are dealt with. That's my personal gripe though.

FM2010 has some new ones, the regular offside goal and the team-talks which, are a bit out of hand - I've had many a game go 3-0 to 3-4 and so on. I don't mind them too much, exciting I suppose you could call it... >_>

Oh my major gripe though isn't any of that it's the whole "win five games in a row and you're going to lose to whoever soon... or you will eventually" it's happened with alarming regularity now I just put it down to the media not shutting up about the winning run, or do what I did in the older versions and field the reserves to lose a game on purpose - interestingly because doing so will ensure you win the next ten-fifteen games until it happens again pretty much.

4) I'm old and jaded.

Yeah, I'm not young anymore and easily amused with the 'thrills' that the game provides. I just want to chill and enjoy the fruits of my labour and it can't happen with the usual gripes et al. Maybe I wouldn't be so vocal about it (well I'm not actually but I mean in the past) if I had alternatives and that might be the problem. FM doesn't really have any viable competition, I'm sure if a good fun game comes along and provides an alternative FM might adjust their philosophy and deal with old issues but until then they have the market, they do as they like and we just play for the sake of it.

Oh in any case - I'm managing Coventry, 1st season top of championship, took Arsenal 2-4 in the league cup quarter finals hehe, nice to see the fans were furious at our performance despite the fact pre-match they 'didn't expect to get a look in' >_> =D

i lose intrest when i think of managering a diffrent team and signing diffrent players

I get frustrated really when no one comments on my stories and all but I still enjoy Football Manager even though nowadays its too 'tactically-focused'

Can't enjoy this game at all anymore, tired of losing or drawing games constantly despite outplaying everybody and creating all the clear cut chances. It's not my players either, I think the game just hates me.

Finally suffering with this..
I need to start a new game, and every time I do, I think why am I this team, so I quit.

I like the idea of Jake's Leoenesa and I tried to do something similar, but then I thought to myself, why am I doing this when I don't know any of the players, so I quit.
I started a game with Getafe, but then I thought, will I be able to get any success, and I thought, No, so I, again, quit.

I started a game with Rochdale, but then I thought, why am I doing this, when I've done it with Stockport..

Any ideas?

I am having the same problem.

Nothing interests me any more.

I'll have to keep on trying but taking a break from FM for a bit.

Im losing interest now. I dont want to stop though, because then I wont play the game for months. lol

Has anyone losing interest taken a look at my Challenge of the month competition?

Each challenge is no more than a season long and are based in diverse leagues around the world.

Makes the game more interesting without a big commitment.

Cheers Dan. :)

I'll take a look.
