Sorry if there's a thread on this, I couldn't see one.

I was just wondering this recently. Has anyone managing a smaller team, been randomly offered a contract by another team (like without applying for the job)?

I'm still in the A-League, and love it there...it's a constant challenge, requiring regular recycling of players...and I've been world class for several seasons now...yet I've never had any interest from big clubs (I haven't applied anywhere).

I just want to know, if it's even possible to be offered jobs without you instigating the talks...mainly out of interest sake. If you can't be offered a contract without noting your interest, it would be pretty dissapointing...but I expect someone has been offered a contract out of the blue??

And, if someone can answer me, perhaps someone can also answer whether it's the same for international management...

Hi yes it is possible to be offered a job even though you have either never approached them, or even denied any interest.

If your a "World Class" manager working for a smaller club, you are going to generate interest from big clubs. I was playing a Burnley game and got offered both the Arsenal and City job in my 4th season. If you don't want to move clubs then simple reject the offer.

Also if you reject the job the club might have increased respect for you.

I know that well enough...I just wanted to know it was actually possible to be offered a job, because I was surprised I hadn't got one yet, despite not wanting to move anyway lol

Maybe it's a case of out of sight, out of mind...being in Australia and all...but I have even had success in the club world championship....beat Barcelona 4-1 in the semis hahahaha....I was in disbelief.

When I was in charge of my created team, I was offered a contract from Fulham after I won promotion to the Championship. Totally out the blue. I took it as I got royally shafted from me board and never got the contract I was promised :@

Been offered a few, all down to the reputation you have in other leagues too, find it very easy to get offered international jobs, slightly harder to get offered bigger club jobs though, unless you are really successful with a small team.

Well, to be honest, I can't do much more than I'm doing now.

I've managed to build an increadible team, despite the salary cap obstacle.

But I suppose the A-league is only 1 1/2 stars...it started at 2 1/2 but went down for some reason...it's not my fault, I regularly win the Asian champions league and do well in the club world cup.

It may be down to the international team's performance...if that makes a difference.

On this years game I've swapped clubs twice. First I got Middlesbrough to the Prem and was sitting in tenth place midawy through the season when City approached me. And now I've started a journeyman career game and got Nottingham to the the Prem, resigned in November the second season because of very poor results and declared interest in managing Palermo, they sacked their coach and hired me.

Never moved straight from a small club to a big one but on FM10 I got close. First after a good eight-month stint at Karlsruhe in the 2. Bundesliga Panathinaikos hired me and then I went on to manage Roma, Man United, Brazil, Portugal and England.

I haven't done a proper Journeyman career since 2007 I don't think....I started unemployed, Swansea picked me up...only half a season in, I was hired to save a struggling championship Birmingham (I think)...got them to the EPL the season after taking them over, and got offered a job at Inter...and that's where I finished.

Most of the time, I just stay at one club, and change national teams to keep it a bit more interesting.

I think the reason I haven't been offered a job must be that I'm not doing it in Europe or something, and that the A-League is considered poor...but I figured, a world class manager, is a world class manager...and that a club would realise that sooner rather than later....

Oh well...I've been waiting for the Australian job to become available, so I can combine it with Brisbane...but it only came up once, and I was only a season or two in, and apparantly not good enough...even though I am Australian (which is important a lot of the time in the game), and had a better reputation than the man hired. If it came up again, and I didn't get it, I would be ****** off lol.

Think you're right. Just been offered a job with Switzerland! Sorry Fulham - have to take it :)

i was leicester manager until 2016...got them to prem...top ten team won fa cup...got offered barca and aresenal job but couldnt accept them because they were only offering me 20,000 a week and i couldnt click the "accept button" until at least 70,000 a week.....anyone no why?

Doing well at the World Cup with Australia might help you...has the press ever said you were a likely candidate for another job or something like that? I hear it's near impossible to make a leap from a small league like that to Europe but in FM10 a regen manager went from club coaching in Korea to being a top-flight manager in the Prem. So it can happen...stick to it, it'd be quite an accomplishment to make the jump.

I've won the Serie A twice, about to win it a third and the CL once but no one has offered me any jobs, I was seriously thinking about going to Wigan to get them back in to the Premiership but passed (applying for the job) and stuck with Inter, now Wigan are raping the Championship so I've no chance of the manager getting the sack now :( maybe next season when they do woefully in the PL!

I started off managing Spurs. I was with them for 3 seasons winning the FA Cup twice and the League Cup once. I finished 4th, 3rd and then 6th in the league. Liverpool sacked Hodgson and then offered me the job. I saved where I was up to with Spurs and took over at Liverpool, and I've already noticed the difference in quality. I probably did as well as anyone could do with Spurs, without bringing in a load of new players anyway. Now I'm with Liverpool I seriously think I can win the league. The £60m transfer budget was the clincher!

I've been at FC Roskilde for six years, and after the 4th I got offered a job at Hercules in spain. But i rejected.

I think if you are at the big clubs, inter, barca, man utd, chelsea etc its going to be almost impossible to get a job offered to you because in all reality who are you really going to leave a big club for? So maybe if you do well at smaller clubs, more clubs may well come in for you because you could easily go to many clubs bigger than the small club your at.

yep, i was liverpool, start of 4th season Real Madrid came calling, so i looked for a new challenge

Yes, I was Caley, got a job offer from Rangers & Celtic within a week, turned them both down.
(I <3 Caley)
