Nearing the end of 1st summer transfer window as Rangers, and already run out of patience with McGregor who just can't seem to keep a clean sheet. I'm quite happy using Alexander instead (I feel a lot more comfortable with him anyway), but figure I may as well sell McGregor as there's no point paying £22k p/w to a guy who isn't playing.

So, I'm looking for ideas for someone affordable I can bring in to replace McGregor. I don't mind whether this is someone who can challenge Alexander straight away or someone who can offer solid back up for now and develop really well in the next few years, but I would rather they be a more traditional goalkeeper (IE someone good in the air and good with his hands) rather than one of this new breed of show-offs who punch it straight to the opposition and are more comfortable with the ball at their feet.

I have about £900k plus 50% of whatever I can get for *******. Any ideas?

Whoever told you **** was clean was lying to you, mate.

Hehe guess I had **** on the brain seeing as I was talking about Mcgregor ;)

Okay, on a more serious note, if you don't have much money to spare you may feel like taking a look at Aliaksandar Hutar from BATE - ~200k and gets the job done. Jack Butland, from Birmingham, is more expensive and he's one for the future, but he has the potential to become world class. Plus, you can mould him into whatever kind of keeper you want him to be. You may even get him on a free at the end of the 1st season.

OK thanks, I'd never heard of Hutar, and he looks quite good, especially for the price. Unfortunately he's already moved to some insignificant Turkish club.

Maybe Butland is the answer then, especially as Luis Guilherme probably won't get a work permit. How about Smithies, Loach or Heaton? Are they any good this year?

EDIT: Was just trawling through South Africa on my Vitesse save and saw Itumeleng Khune (Kaiser Chiefs) and Wayne Sandilands (Sundowns) Who look like they might be pretty good, and should be affordable. Any experience with them? Any good? Do they get work permits?

Butland's the british keeper with the best PA IIRC. Smithies is good too, but he might be more expensive than Butland, and as he starts injured his stats drop for the first 3-4 months.

yann sommer from basel. 2.6 million euros. for me this is the best gk in the game. punching, handling, reflexes. complete gk

I did consider him actually when I was scouring Europe, and as I just loaded my Rangers save back up to scout Khune and he'd already gone to Al-Hilal, I may just make a move for Sommer now. I don't think I'm going to get anyone better for the price at this point. Do Swiss players need work permits?

EDIT: Oh, and even better: Basel haven't played in Europe yet, so he should still be eligible for CL squad :)

OK thanks for the help guys. ******* is now a Wolves player (sold for £5m) and has been replaced at Ibrox by Yann Sommer (£1.3m) so I have a younger, better goalkeeper, costing me £12k a week less and I have an extra few million in the bank. This one looks like it's worked out well :D

no. swiis players don`t need works permits. scout a player and in his description you will see if a player need a wp and what are the chances of getting a wp if he needs one. sommer is quality player, has a high potential ability(150-160) and he is very cheap. sure, if you want to spend 20-30 million on a gk you`ll find a world class gk. in my save i bought sommer for 2.5 million euros and now he is wanted by juventus(after one year)
