February/March 2013

Points shared as the top two meet!
Xerez played host to Elche at the beginning of February in a clash of the top two. A closely matched game in terms of shots and possession ended up 2-2. We had the better of the chances with 6 CCCs to their 2, Tato with the closest hitting the inside of the post, keeper well beaten

Xerez finally beaten!!
After going unbeaten in the league for 22 games we were finally beaten when we played Guadalajara. A 2-0 win for the home side came as a bit of a shock given our respective places in the league but there is no doubt they were the better team on the day.

Resurgent Villarreal promotion hopes over?
The last game we played was at home to Villarreal, we were comfortably the better side over the 90 minutes and we won 2-1 but their form recently under the new manager has been very good with them still with a mathematical chance of making the playoffs. However they're 14 points off the playoffs with ten games to play so its looking a tall order.

April/May/End of season 2012/13

Elche title challenge fades as Hercules rise
At the halfway point Elche were second having only dropped points in 6 games from 21, in the second half of the season they won 7, drew 7, lost 7 - blowing a ten point advantage to Hercules who finished the season promoted in second, 5 points above Elche!

Villarreal finish mid-table
Pre-season favourites Villarreal failed to recover from their awful start to the season, finishing well off the pace in 11th place. If we had any money i would love to sign some of their places but their wages would be too much.

Xerez seal promotion and the Adelante title!!
A remarkable season, i certainly wasnt expecting promotion this season let alone dominating the league. I promised the fans attacking football and thats exactly what they got with our Kevin-Keegen-we'll-score-one-more-than-you approach really paying off at this level. Every game was entertaining, end to end stuff.

Summer 2013 / August 2013

Season Expectations
The squad needs vastly improving if we are to stay in this league. I chose the maximum available to me, top half finish, 7m transfer kitty and 180k wage budget. This a risk but one which gives me flexibility in the transfer market which was lacking last season.

Mtanna eyes title in 4 years
This challenge is about winning titles and moving on to the next team. Following promotion we have to stay up, push for Europe, push for top 4 and then the title. Hopefully.

Xerez overhaul Adelante championship squad
In come 20 new faces: 4 youngsters, 4 loanees and 12 permanent first teamers. With the 12 first team signings and the 4 loan signings all registered in the 25 man squad, only 9 players from last season's squad survive: Chema, Prieto, Keita, Herrero, Israel, Marquitos, Tato, Maldonado and Velez. The new faces came in at a cost of just 6.5m.

Xerez make solid start to life in La Liga
Two draws and a win in the first three games of the season sees us sixth, above Barcelona at this very early stage. Similar story to last season with our games being end to end, chances galore to both sides. I may have to have a tactical re-think because we will get punished at this level defending like we have so far.

18/8/13
R.Sociedad 1-1 Xerez
(Marquitos)

25/8/13
Xerez 2-2 Getafe
(Herrero, Angulo)

1/9/13
Celta 1-3 Xerez
(Shilla, Velez, Yartley)
