I very rarely score from freekicks, direct or indirect. I'm managing Spurs with Tevez, Balotelli, Van der Vaart and Krancjar as decent freekick takers. I probably score 2-3 goals a season from direct freekicks and 1-2 from indirect. I usually finish as one of the highest scoring teams in the league so it's no a big problem, but it would be nice to score more freekicks.

Any advice?

I have Bale taking them from the right, but he doesn't score many. Saying that he just scored one for me. Doh! I'll try him on the right as well.

van der vaart is alot better then bale at shooting from free kicks, bale is better at crossing them in from set peices. dont just look at the free kicks take into consideration his long shots which bale is at about 10

How often do teams score free-kicks in real life, average of 5 a season? Pretty realistic

I was thinking the same thing, but honestly VDV and Bale score very few freekicks for me, I'm not sure VDV has scored any, but then he scores very few goals for anyway. They always shoot into the wall, and crossed freekicks very rarely go to anyone. The only goals Bale scores are low blasters into the near bottom corner. None of my freekick takers have scored a nice dipping shot over the wall. Does having them set to work on freekicks in individual training help at all? I can't see how if they already have decent freekick stats.

there are some ball phsyics that need to be implement for free kicks to work better, SI have been working on this for a while but it wont be ready till fm12 since it requires a lot of ME reworking

I thought that might be the case. I guess it must be the same with crossing. I hope they sort it out, it's annoying that I have set my tactics up without decent good old-fashioned wing play.

the wingplay is better in 11.3 though, ut wont be at its best till fm12

I've not updated it to 11.3 yet, I've heard some negatives about it. I've been doing really well this season and don't want to risk ruining it by updating.

11.3 is much better, ignore the **** on the si forums, they are constant whingers. its not perferct but overall its really really good, especially the transfer market

Poor spelling in that post Mikey :(

On average I'd say I score around 10 free-kicks a season. (Direct that is)

I tend to try get the taker to cross the ball to my best headed, this seems to work very well on the 11.3 patch. When I was trying the new patch out with Everton, Cahill scored around 13 goals from it.

Ok I might give it a go then. I think I'll wait until I've finished this season first.

He can take them well from either side, from the left he curls them like Messi into the left hand post, but close to the 18 yard box he smashed them into the right pretty frequently. (H)

... and you literally just make him your primary freekick taker? You don't have to change any of the freekick settings? I've got him as my primary freekick taker on both sides, I've got him doing freekick training and I'm still not seeing any of these curling freekicks you're on about. Same with VDV.

I have Modric taking them for me, though I tend to float the ball into the box and then use the afk routine to get one or two to stand in front of the keeper. Sometimes they go straight in, sometimes it's flicked on to the back post. The majority of the time it's cleared.
