Unless you are one of top clubs in the world you are always likely to make a loss each month.
The big money usually comes at the start in the form of TV money, sponsor deals etc and the running costs usually surpass the income during the season.
The important thing is to keep an eye on the overall finances. It's no problem if you make a loss as long as there is still money in the bank, and with a good run in the cup and a promotion, it is likelyto work out in the long run. In FM at least, in real life there's been too many examples of the financial situation getting out of hand...
Anyway, keep an eye on your wages and take a look if your monthly loss is likely to get you in the red, if not you're good.
You can always try to sign a big name player at the end of his career and hope for merchandise sales to increase, and if money is really tight arrange a few friendlies between your reserves and some bigger club to rake in some gate receipts.
