Heart of Midlothian - British Football

In season 2011/2012 Scottish football was on its knees, teams crippled by debts they could not pay in a league of little interest. This is when change was finally put into motion, in an announcement which shook the footballing world, the Clydesdale Bank Premier League was to be merged with the English 2nd Division.

This lead to other teams within Scotland opting to join the new league. The teams that already played in the English 2nd Division played off with only a handful of the teams remaining in this league, something that would help combat travel costs.

  • [*=center]
    Ryan Stevenson

First half goals from 2 of our most experienced players had us leading at half time, we were unable to find anymore goals in the second half although Morton did cut the deficit with a 51st minute goal from Bathgate.

A superb effort in front of goal this afternoon, Dale Carrick put the Jambos in front after 3 minutes and Callum Patterson doubled that lead on the 10th minute of play. Altincham's Walshaw would pull a goal back for the home side on the 63rd minute of play before Scott Robinson made it 3-1 on the 80th minute. Callum Patterson
A flawless performance from Hearts saw us take the lead through Ryan Stevenson on the 6th minute before doubling his tally for the day on the 29th minute. Dale Carrick and Scott Robinson put the home side 4-0 up at half time. Jason Holt scored 2 minutes after the restart before Dale Carrick scored his second in the 55th minute. Callum Patterson would add his name to the scoresheet on the 74th minute before Dale Carrick sealed his hattrick on the 80th minute.

Pre-season Analysis
Not a bad pre-season, despite only managing to keep 2 clean sheets we did use 3 different goalkeepers throughout those matches. It is very clear at this stage that Callum Patterson is going to be our main goal threat with Robinson, Stevenson and Holt being our best support players. Very difficult to tell how the team will perform in the opening day of the season against Celtic.

Breaking News
Hearts have exited administration following the successful takeover by local businessman David Sheepshank. A mixed reaction to the exit of former owner Vladimir Romanov who oversaw wins in the Scottish Cup and a short run in the champions league and of course that memorable season of 05/06. The new owner had stated that at this point he had no intention of making additional funds available but does expect us to win promotion in our first season.

Fixture Roundup
September 2012 - October 2012

Hearts 1 - 1 Torquay
League Game
A poor performance and another league game which ended in a draw. Jason Holt's goal on the 46th minute gave Hearts the lead before Nicholas Bignall equalized on the hour mark.

Port Vale 2 - 2 Hearts
League Game
So close yet so far! A goal from Ryan Stevenson on the 52nd minute gave Hearts a deserved lead before Scott Robinson appeared to seal the points on the 84th minute. However goals from Barkhuizen and Tomlin on the 89th and 91st minutes meant yet another game where Hearts have failed to gain a victory and the bottom of the table is becoming more and more of a reality. A decent performance from Hearts and man of the match for Ryan Stevenson.

Hearts 1 - 1 Plymouth
League Game
Hearts took an early lead when Ryan Stevenson scored after just 21 seconds. Hearts completely dominated the match having almost 60% off the possession throughout the match. Once again points were dropped though when Dominic Blizzard equalized on the 64th minute.

Dinamo 2 - 3 Hearts
Europa League Group Stage
It may not be a league win but a big win none the less as Hearts went 2 goals up through Dale Carrick on the 13th and 17th minutes. However Fernandez pulled one back on the 20th minutes. Jelen would score a stunning free kick 1 minute into the 2nd half to level the tie. Ryan Stevenson's 67th minute strike sealed the win and 3 points in the group. An excellent performance all round and man of the match for Dale Carrick.

Fixture Roundup
October 2012 - November 2012

Rochdale 1 - 3 Hearts
League Game

Having managed to win our first league game of the season against Northampton we hoped to build on that with a win over Rochdale. Dale Carrick struck twice in the opening 10 minutes before Jamie Walker curled in the third on the 24th minute to put us into a commanding lead. Michael Smith would score a conciliation goal for the home side on the 72nd minute. An excellent all round performance and a good 3 points plus man of the match for Jamie Walker.

Hearts 1 - 2 Rubin
Europa League Group Stage

A decent performance from Hearts but a tired threadbare squad couldn't quiet manage a point. Rondon and Navas scoring within the first 25 minutes put the away side into a commanding lead. Dale Carrick managed to score on the 79th minute.

Hearts 3 - 0 Motherwell
Johnstone's Paint Trophy North

In what would be the first of 2 matches between these 2 in the next week, Hearts took the lead through Callum Patterson after just 3 minutes of play. Patterson would grab his second 37 minutes in to send the home team in a half time with the lead. Jason Holt stuck home the third after 78 minutes of play to send Hearts through to the next round. A good all round performance and man of the match for striker Callum Patterson.

Motherwell 1 - 2 Hearts
League Game

The second meeting between the 2 this week, this time it was Hearts travelling through to Fir Park. The match began the same, striker Callum Patterson putting Hearts into the lead after 18 minutes. 1-0 up at half time and hungry for all 3 points, Callum Patterson doubling the lead with his second of the game on the 52nd minute. Patterson would miss the chance at a hat-trick before Motherwell's Bob McHugh pulled 1 back for the home side. However Hearts held out for the win in a good performance which saw Jamie Walker pick up man of the match.

Hearts 0 - 0 Cheltenham
League Game

A terrible game to watch, Cheltenham unable to muster a single shot on goal whilst Hearts hit the post on 3 separate occasions in a match in which they dominated. A single point in a fairly lackluster performance.

Gillingham 1 - 1 Hearts
League Game
As if the game against Cheltenham hadn't been bad enough, this encounter was almost as bad. Although Ryan Stevenson and Cody MacDonald scored either side of half time, this was the only attempts on goal throughout the entire match. Another lackluster performance and another 2 points dropped.

Hearts 0 - 1 Dynamo Kiev
Europa League Group Stage
Hearts would need to pick up their game against tough European opponents, any performance like the last 2 league games would see them destroyed. Hearts managed to rise to the occasion but their inability to take chances at the moment saw them draw a blank as they hit the woodwork twice. Dynamo Kiev took the lead 45 seconds after the restart through Mbokani which sees Hearts remain third in the group.

West Brom 3 - 0 Hearts
Capital One Cup 4th Round
Out classed and out performed! West Brom taking the lead through Scotland midfielder James Morrison on the 33rd minute before a Chris Brunt free kick made it 2-0. Brunt notched his second 4 minutes after half time to send West Brom through to the 5th round.

Managers Thoughts
Not a terrible start to the league campaign, only 1 defeat on the opening day of the season. Our inability to see out victories is a problem but the same squad is being asked to play in all competitions and they are very tired. Looking at the league table doesn't tell us much about our own chances of promotion due to the amount of catch up games. All in all i can't complain about the start we have made to the season.

Fixture Roundup
November 2012 - December 2012

Hearts 4 - 1 Cheltenham
FA Cup 1st Round
Just a few weeks on from the very forgetful league match between these 2 met at Tynecastle to play off in the 1st round of the FA cup. Callum Tapping opened the scoring after just 14 minutes with a powerful effort. Jason Holt then doubled the lead on the stroke of half time to ensure Hearts went in at half time in command. Jason Holt would pick up where he left off in the first half with his 2nd goal of the game 2 minutes after the restart. Matt Richards pulled a goal back on the 50th minute but Dean Parrett would then kill off the tie on the 68th minute to send Hearts through to the 2nd round. An excellent all round performance saw Jason Holt pick up man of the match.

Dynamo Kiev 0 - 0 Hearts
Europa League Group Stage
A solid defensive display from Hearts saw them claim a point in their 2nd game against Kiev. Young center back Brad Mackay put in an impressive display earning him match of the match. Disappointingly Jamie Walker picked up an injury that would see him out for 2 months.

Hearts 1 - 0 Chesterfield
League Game

A tired squad returned to Edinburgh for this league clash which saw Callum Patterson score the only goal of the game after 4 minutes of play. Danny Wilson would pick up man of the match for a solid defensive display.

Exeter 4 - 3 Hearts
League Game
An epic encounter which was the tale of 2 men. Elliot Chamberlain put Exeter in front after just 6 minutes before Ryan Stevenson equalized on the 11th minute of play. Striker Sam Parkin hit a quickfire double on the 19th and 25th minute thanks to some horror mistakes from experienced keeper Jamie MacDonald. The tie looked all but over when Danny Wilson send a header past the Exeter keeper to send both teams in at half time with the score at 3-2. Following the restart Hearts were on the ascendancy and Danny Wilson's header was blocked by Artur Krysiak who then turned the ball into the back of his own net to level the score at 3-3. With 4 minutes added on at the end of the game both teams looked like they would take a point when Jamie MacDonald dropped the ball at the feet of Sam Parking who completed his hat-trick with the last kick of the ball.

Hearts 1 - 1 Dinamo
Europa Cup Group Stage

Following the disappointing league result and faced with the prospect of crashing out of Europe, Hearts needed a win over Dinamo and put themselves in with a chance when Ryan Stevenson gave them the lead after 29 minutes. Manual Krncevic scored late in the second half to level the score and send Hearts out of Europe with 1 game left to play. An all round good performance from Hearts who were unlucky in defeat.

Hearts 0 - 1 Fleetwood
League Game

Luck may have abandoned Hearts! An eventful match with Hearts having a goal disallowed in the first half when Billy King had the ball in the back of the net. The referee then wrongly gave a penalty to Fleetwood claiming Danny Wilson had commited a foul. Stephen Schumacher put the ball high into the top corner out of the reach of keeper Jamie MacDonald. With time running down Hearts had claims for a penalty turned down when striker Dale Carrick was brought down in the box. In a post-match press conference Hearts manager Scott Potter blasted the referee for both decisions, the FA chose to stay silent over the criticism as it appeared just.

Crewe 0 - 3 Hearts
Johnstone's Paint Trophy North Q/F
Bouncing back from their defeat in the league, Hearts put Crewe to the sword with goals from Callum Patterson and Dylan McGowan in the first half. Billy King rounded things off in a dominating performance from Hearts which saw Crewe play the entire match without a shot on goal.

View attachment 466521

Managers Thoughts
Some disappointing results this past match in the league which has caused Dylan McGowan to come to me claiming that he believes the club is underachieving. It is hard to judge how we are performing at this point considering we have played roughly 7 games less in the league that the teams around us. We have certainly overachieved in Europe in my opinion and have done fairly well in the cup competitions.

Fixture Roundup
December 2012 - January 2013

Yeovil 4 - 1 Hearts
FA Cup 2nd Round
Yeovil may be flying high in the 1st Division but i never thought for a moment we would suffer this kind of defeat. Paddy Madden scored a hat-trick with goals on the 29, 49th and 53rd minutes. Michael Ngoo scored 1 minute into the second half. Ryan Stevenson was the only Hearts player to get pass marks as he scored on the 58th minute.

Rubin 4 - 0 Hearts
Europa League Group Stage
4 points clear in third place and with no chance of finishing any higher the team went into this match knowing there was no pressure on them, however this kind of defeat was unmerited. Solomon Rondon sent Rubin in at half time with the lead. Roman Eremenko, Ifran and Kisliak stuck in the second half to humiliate the travelling side. It wasn't exactly a poor performance from Hearts, Rubin were simply ruthless.

Rotherham 3 - 2 Hearts
League Game
Dale Carrick struck after 2 minutes to put Hearts into the lead in what we hoped would be a return to form, however goals from Alex Revell and Rob Milsom send Rotherham in at half time with a 2-1 lead. The second half began the same way it ended and Alex Revell grabbed his second on the 57th minute as he looked to put Rotherham out of sight. Ryan Stevenson struck on the 71st minute to give Hearts a chance of a point but they were unable to pull it back and dropped points again.

Hearts 0 - 1 Celtic
League Game
Another crushing blow for Hearts to bare, an almost perfect performance against Celtic had Hearts heading towards a point when Charlie Mulgrew struck a wonderful effort 1 minute into injury time of the second half, with just 20 seconds to go to crush the home side's spirits even further.

AFC Wimbledon 4 - 1 Hearts
League Game

Misery! Misery! Misery! Goals from Paul Sweeney and Sammy Moore put Wimbledon 2-0 up after 21 minutes. Jamie Hammil converted a penalty on the stoke of half time but normal service resumed in the second half as Aley and Jack Midson finished Hearts off before even an hour of football had been played.

Hearts 3 - 2 Motherwell
League Game
A roller coaster of a match! Hearts continued their poor form for December when James McFadden converted from the penalty spot after just 4 minutes when Dylan McGowan took down John Sutton. Things went from bad to worse when Carswell headed Motherwell into a commanding lead. 3 minutes later and Danny Wilson got on the end of a Jason Holt corner to give Hearts a lifeline. Dale Carrick went through on goal moments later but was taken out allowing Jamie Hamill to equalize on the 28th minute. Having came back from 2 down could Hearts go all the way? The second half was a battling performance which eventually saw Dale Carrick strike Hearts into the lead just before the hour mark to seal the points for the Tynecastle outfit. A battling performance all round with Dale Carrick picking up man of the match.

Bristol Rovers 2 - 2 Hearts
League Game

Once again Hearts went down early with a goal from Oshilaja before Callum Patterson leveled things with 34 minutes played. Micah Evens sent Bristol Rovers in at half time with a goal after 38 minutes. Hearts would come out battling in the second half and once again striker Dale Carrick struck, this time on the 93rd minute to seal a point for Hearts. Danny Wilson would pick up man of the match after another gritty performance.

Hearts 6 - 0 Dundee United
League Game

Jamie Walker, a late Christmas present! Jamie Walker made his return from injury having been out for the last 2 months. Defender Brad Mackay put Hearts in front with a half volley 13 minutes into the first half following a stramash in the box. Midfielder Callum Tapping then doubled the lead after 27 minutes and things only got better when Jamie Walker made it 3-0 on the stroke of halftime. Jamie Walker would come out for the second half like a house on fire and scored his second after 54 minutes before converting a penalty on the 85th minute to bag his first hat trick for Hearts. Jamie Walker went off to a rousing ovation, being replaced by Dale Carrick. Carrick only needed a few minutes, scoring a stunning goal on the 89th minute to the disbelief of everybody. A world class performance from the entire team and a well deserved man of the match award for Jamie Walker.

A Month of Turmoil
It has been a tough month with me receiving pressure from the Hearts board who issued an ultimatum heading into the game against Bristol Rovers. Jamie Hamill also came to me to let me know he felt the club was underachieving, i completely agree after the month we have endured. On a lighter note Dale Carrick came out and publicly back me during a press conference. With the transfer window about the open i need to try and make a signing or two without panic buying. Every game for the foreseeable future has my job on the line.

Fixture Roundup
January 2013 - February 2013

Torquay 0 - 2 Hearts
League Game
With the recent pressure to turn things around or join the unemployment line, Hearts faced a trip to Torquay, having drawn with them at Tynecastle earlier in the season. A good all round performance from Hearts but with no goals at half time the pressure increased going into the second half. It took until the 73rd minute before Dale Carrick put Hearts in front. As Torquay pushed for a leveler late in the game, Dale Carrick grabbed his second 3 minutes into injury time following a great counter attack. Man of the match rightfully went to Dale Carrick.

Hearts 1 - 2 Port Vale
League Game
Had the season began to turn? Not quite! Dylan McGowan conceeded a penalty with allowed Tomlin to put the away side ahead after 35 minutes. Ryan Stevenson quickly levelled the score with a good effort on the 38th minute of play. Hearts were never able to find another gear in this match which resulted in Tomlin grabbing his second to seal all 3 points early in the second half.

Hearts 2 - 0 Bradford
Johnstone Paint Trophy North Semi Final
Just days before this match Hearts unveiled their first signing of the transfer window, winger David Templeton making his return to Hearts from rivals Rangers for an undisclosed fee. This would prove to be an inspired signing as Templeton scored on the 67th and 69th minute to send Hearts through to the North final. Naturally Temps picked up man of the match in a good performance from the home side.

Plymouth 3 - 3 Hearts
League Game
A high scoring game in an epic encounter. Hearts striker Dale Carrick put Hearts into the lead after just 4 minutes of play. Matt Leiconte then leveled the score after 14 minutes. Dale Carrick managed to put Hearts back in front after 27 minutes before Leiconte leveled once again with just over 30 minutes played. Both teams went in at half time level and the stakes were high for a hat trick following 2 great performances. Tyler Harvey put Plymouth in front on the 69th minute before Jason Holt stuck home on the 79th minute to earn both teams a point.

Hearts 1 - 1 Hibernian
League Game
The first Edinburgh Derby of the season saw Hearts take the lead on the 30th minute through Dale Carrick. Rowan Vine leveled with a great header early in the second half. An uneventful match then saw former Man City youngster Ryan McGivern sent off for violent conduct with literally the last kick of the ball.

Hearts 1 - 0 Wimbledon
League Game
Hearts were not only keen to get back to winning ways in the league but to gain some revenge for the humilating defeat to Wimbledon last month. Dean Parrett gave Hearts the lead 30 minutes into the first half. Wimbledon didn't manage much offense thanks to Jamie Hamill who was fantastic in the middle of the park and earned man of the match.

Oxford 0 - 1 Hearts
League Game
Prior to the match defender Danny Wilson publicly stated he felt Hearts were still underachieving. Jason Holt managed to give Hearts the lead on the 26th minute which also earned him man of the match. A good all round performance from Hearts as Oxford never looked like scoring.

Hearts 2 - 0 Rochdale
League Game

A dominant performance from Hearts saw them continue their recent winning run and keep a third clean sheet in a row. Recently signed Graham Carey giving Hearts the lead in the 70th minute before Billy King doubled the lead 3 minutes later. Another good all round performance from Hearts with Billy King picking up man of the match.

Dundee United 1 - 3 Hearts
League Game
Hearts in a great run of form and a Dundee United side desperate to make up from the thumping defeat they received at the end of December at the hands of the Jambos. Defender Gavin Gunning giving the home side the lead in the 14th minute getting on the end of a corner. David Templeton was kick to respond leveling the score after 26th minutes of play. Templeton would swing in a cross just before half time which allowed Jamie Walker to score from close range. Hearts leading at half time and looking good on the match, David Templeton put Hearts out of sight in the 57th minute to earn the points and man of the match.

Managers Thoughts
A superb turn around from last months and a few extra players signed that should help. We recently made some tactical tweaks to our formation which had proved fruitful. David Templeton has certainly been a great signing for us so far, surprised to see him transfer listed. Through to the finals of the Paint Trophy North with Rangers to play. We may even be able to get into the coveted promotion places if things keep going the way they have recently.

Recent Signings
David Templeton (Winger)
Mathew Dunleavy (Defender)
Graham Carey (Winger)
Paul McShane (Defender)
Mathew Bates (Defender)

Fixture Roundup
February 2013 - March 2013

Northampton 0 - 1 Hearts
League Game
Hearts may be on a run of wins recently and despite a poor performance we managed to pick up another 3 points. Northampton simply could not put the ball past keeper Jamie MacDonald. David Templeton put Hearts only shot on target on the 65th minute to give Hearts the lead. Danny Wilson was commanding in the center of defense and helped Hearts hold on and picked up man of the match.

Hibernian 0 - 0 Hearts
League Game
The second Edinburgh derby of the season finished in yet another draw between the 2. Neither side were particularly good and Danny Wilson once again picked up man of the match for a solid defensive display.

Rangers 1 - 0 Hearts
Johnstone Paint Trophy North Final 1st Leg
The first game of the North final saw Hearts travel through to Ibrox to face Rangers who have been flying high in the league all season. The game was tight throughout with only a defensive error from Kevin McHattie who failed to clear the ball allowing Barrie Mackay to score in the 31st minute. Hearts saw striker Callum Patterson stretchered off and early reports suggest he is out for 2 months. Hearts defender Paul McShane picked up man of the match for a solid defensive display.

Southend 0 - 0 Hearts
League Game
Hearts good form appears to be coming to an end with a 3rd game on the trot without a goal. A poor all round performance from Hearts saw Callum Tapping pick up man of the match for his efforts an a very uneventful match.

Hearts 3 (0) - 1 (1) Rangers
Johnstone Paint Trophy North Final 2nd Leg
Hearts went into this match at Tynecastle trailing by a goal to nil thanks to Barrie Mackay's goal at Ibrox. Daniel De Ridder gave Rangers the lead in the 11th minute which looked to put Rangers firmly in control. Defender Matthew Bates leveled for Hearts 3 minutes later with a strike from just inside the area. Both teams went in level at half time and then things really heat up. Hearts came out for the second half like a house on fire and dominated the match, Jason Holt put Hearts in front in the 58th minute. As time ticked down the referee added on 4 minutes, with just seconds to spare Dean Parrett tapped home from close range to put Hearts 3-1 up and into the Final. Scott Robinson picked up man of the match for his hand in the 2nd and 3rd goals. Jamie MacDonald had special praise for the Hearts manager who's half time team talk helped turn things around. Hearts will now play Bournemouth in the Cup Final on the 7th of April.

Hearts 4 - 2 Wycombe
League Game

Buoyed by the previous win Hearts went into this match looking confident and went 2 up after 10 minutes with goals from Danny Grainger and Graham Carey. A freak goal from Wycombe's Sam Wood on the stroke of half time gave Hearts a scare. Defender Johnny Dunleavy put Hearts back into a commanding lead with an hour played before Wycombe scored again through Junior Morais. Graham Carey hit Wycombe on the counter 89 minutes played to seal the points for the Tynecastle men. Graham Carey rightly picked up man of the match.

Cheltenham 1 - 1 Hearts

A poor performance from Hearts saw Cheltenham take the lead through Kevin Feeley after 19 minutes. David Templeton leveled the score after 68 minutes. Danny Wilson picked up man of the match in a forgetful match.

Managers Thoughts
A great turn around in the past 2 months and now just a point off the promotion places with 3 games at hand. It will be quite a push to get an automatic promotion place but a cup final to look forward too.

Fixture Roundup
March 2013 - April 2013

Hearts 4 - 2 Rangers
League Game
Games against Rangers seem to be the theme of the moment, having beaten Rangers in the Pain trophy just a few weeks ago Rangers were back at Tynecastle hoping to go one step closer to obtaining automatic promotion. Dale Carrick put Hearts in front after 3 minutes before Daniel De Ridder leveled the score in the 14th minute from the penalty spot. Callum Tapping put Hearts back in front in the 34th minute before Andy Little leveled once again in the 36th minute. This game was fantastic for the neutral party but as the second half began it was the Hearts fans who were happer when Callum Tapping grabbed his second 2 minutes after the restart. With Rangers pushing to get level Dale Carrick's effort was almost kept out by Cammy Bell but instead Bell made a howler which went down as an own goal to give Hearts all 3 points. Callum Tapping picked up man of the match for a well deserved brace.

Rangers 1 - 2 Hearts
League Game
Yet another game against Rangers, this time at Ibrox. Rangers badly needing a win to get some revenge on Hearts who have battered them recently. A goalless first half but Dale Carrick gave Hearts the lead early in the second half. Nicky Clarke leveled 8 minutes from time and it looked like a point each when for the second game running Cammy Bell put the ball in the back of his own net to give Hearts all 3 points. Danny Wilson picked up man of the match for a solid display.

Hearts 3 - 0 Gillingham
League Game

A good performance from Hearts saw them continue to build momentum in their push for automatic promotion. Dylan McGowan heading Hearts into the lead after 21 minutes and Scott Robinson doubled the lead just before half time. Ryan Stevenon struck half way through the second half to deliver all 3 points for the home side. Defender Matthew Bates picked up man of the match for 2 assists.

Wycombe 1 - 1 Hearts
League Game
A fairly poor performance from Hearts in what appeared could be a cracking game. Wycombe took the lead through Stuart Lewis after 10 minutes before Danny Wilson leveled the score 2 minutes later. The finishing was poor throughout the match with Wycombe's only shot on target resulted in that goal which earned them a point. Once again Danny Wilson picked up man of the match.

Hearts 2 - 3 Southend
League Game
A cracking match, shame about the result though. Eastwood and Hurst had the away team leading inside of 16 minutes before Ryan Stevenson pulled one back 28 minutes played. Scott Robinson leveled the score 9 minutes into the second half but Corr scored on the hour mark to send Southend home with all 3 points.

Aberdeen 1 - 1 Hearts
League Game
Hearts chances of automatic promotion almost completely gone now. Billy King put Hearts into the lead after 11 minutes and Hearts were looking good for the points with this performance. However an own goal by Danny Wilson just minutes from time meant another win less match. Oddly enough Danny Wilson picked up man of the match for his performance in this game.

Chesterfield 2 - 4 Hearts
League Game

Cracking! Former Hibernian striker Eoin Doyle with a thunderous strike put Chesterfield in front after 31 minutes before Graham Carey leveled things 1 minute from half time. The second half was even better. A Jamie Walker free kick deflected off Liam Cooper into the back of the net for an own goal before Danny Wilson doubled Hearts lead just 4 minutes into the second half. Chesterfield looked up for the fight as Sam Morsey scored on the 51st minute. Graham Carey sealed all 3 points for Hearts with a strike in the 72nd minutes. League Game
Having played Aberdeen in a recent draw at Pittodrie, Hearts were keen to assert their dominance over Aberdeen. Hearts lead at half time but started the second half slow which allowed Bournemouth to equalize through Chuks Aneke 3 minutes after the restart. If Bournemouth had been able to finish better they would have dominated the second half, however Danny Wilson a rock at the heart of the Hearts defense popped up 74 minutes gone to head Hearts into the lead. Hearts would hold on to the lead and win the match and trophy. Defender Danny Wilson picked up man of the match for his defensive display and winning goal.

Bradford 2 - 0 Hearts

Hearts failed to show up for this game, perhaps the hangover from the cup final victory against Bournemouth. Goals from Wells either side of half time gave Bradford the easy victory.

Hearts 3 - 0 Exeter
League Game
In a pre-match press conference Hearts manager Scott Potter made it very clear that he would not tolerate a performance like the one against Bradford and demanded that his team build on their cup final victory by securing promotion. Hearts seemingly responded well by thumping Exeter in a dominant performance. Jamie Walker put Hearts in front just before half time. Ryan Stevenson and Paul McShane both scored in the second half to take all 3 points. Man of the match went to Paul McShane for his defensive display and brilliant headed goal.

Making amends for the defeat to Bradford last week, Hearts dominated possession ensuring Bradford did not have a single shot during the match. Jamie Walker gave Hearts the lead after 9 minutes to secure all 3 points.

Hearts 2 - 0 Oxford
League Game

Hearts continued their good form with another clean sheet and 3 points. A goal less first half came to an end with either side capable of winning. Managers Thoughts
Delighted to win the Paint Trophy final and a great last few games of the season, its just a shame we have missed out on the automatic promotion. However i thoroughly believe we can overcome the other 3 teams that are up for promotion.

Season Expectations
Despite struggling through most of last season we managed to get promotion, this year keeping Hearts up would probably be seen as a good effort. However the board want me to go a step further and finish in the top half of the table. Another good cup run would also be nice and perhaps to retain the Paint Trophy too. No European football to disrupt the season so lets hope we can get off to a flier.

Incredible scenes in front of a poor turnout. A crowd of only 6,434 showed up for this clash with premier league side Southampton. A goal from Billy Sharp gave the visitors the lead after just 20 minutes and it looked like it would be enough to seal victory. Youngster Colin Martin had other ideas though as he scored his first goal for Hearts in the 85th minute to force extra time. Extra time came and almost went when Dale Carrick fired in a stunning goal 2 minutes into injury time with the last touch of the ball to shock Southampton and put Hearts into the 3rd round.
