Hi,

I've had Football Manger for a few months now and I just can't seem to get into it. I usually get past the friendlies and then lose interest in my current 'project'. I don't really know what I'm doing before an during the friendlies either though. I would say I know less than 40% of the features and things to do on FM.

I beg and plead for someone to either:
- Make a video with a step by step guide to help me get on my way, everything I need to do up to say 5 games into a season (on big teams and lower league teams - English) and either post it on this thread on E-mail me it (Private message me for my E-mail Address)
- Post a link or put an attachment on this thread or again, E-mail me it (Private Message me for my E-mail Address)
- Post a bullet pointed/numbered step by step guide right from the beginning to up to 5 or 6 games into the season

If anyone can help me it will be appreciated unbelievable amounts! Any furhter advice/help/tips/hints/tricks will all be appreciated, such as good teams to be the you wouldn't ever usually use - fairly rich, good youth, easy to challenge for promtion in Championship/League One/League Two (English leagues).

Many Thanks, bradinglis96

You're asking me to help you continue playing a game for the first 5 games? if you can't stay that long with the game then maybe fm isn't for you?

No, it is definately for me, I love it, I'm asking you to help me get started though. I only said help me up to 5 or 6 games because I don't want you or anyone else to write out a season for me, I just need to get to see how things work and come for or 6 games into the season the Transfer window is shut so I will be on my way.

Just leave the advice thing on that is on when you start a fm career, it gives you advice on some stuff. Also if your new to football manager then always start with a big team with big budget (Man Utd, Man City, Chelsea etc.) This will help you as you will have lots of good staff and players and you won't really need to do that much. Then when you feal more comfortable with how to manage a team/ set a good formation/ what sort of player are good for where/who to sign/sell then try managing a smaller team with less money for wages/ transfers.
Hope that helps!

Thanks alot SFC2010 that was a big help, I would like to ask you something else or anyone who can help please post. How can I find who to is good enough to buy for a team at the standards of say Tottenham up to Man Utd/Chelsea outside of the Premier League, do I have to search through players individually and could possibly take hours or is there a quicker way of finding players that are 'up to scratch'?

Once again thanks for your help so far and could you try and help me on this one.

if you want to know who to sign then using the player search function, setting your scouts to similar level leagues or nations, using your assistant's team report ( a button on the top right of the squad screen) or individually talking to your best few players to see if they have any recommendations are all good ways of finding players for your team. the first 2 options are probably the most useful as they will come up with more players although not all of them will be up to scratch as scouts sometimes get things wrong and younger players tend to be valued higher so they might have the potential to be better then your team but are currently weaker.

if that fails then you could always look in the players section as there are plenty of suggestions in there for all sorts of positions and all sorts of teams.

If you want to sing player your assistant manager can recomend you player in the position that he thinks the team is weakest in. To find this go to your assistant manager and then go to reports then team reports and it will show where he thinks your weakest and three players that he recomends in that position but the quality of the advice depends on the quality of your assistant manager

1) as SFC said, start with a good team first, get used to the game
2) download tactics from the site, I will give you a few below to see which formation you like etc.. use them for a while then you can start tweaking them to your liking and team and you can learn that way
3) sign players that you can afford and that will add to your team, do not sign players for the sake of signing players, if you like good youngsters then invest in them and rotate them in :)

4) play as many pre-season friendlies as you can (not to tire your team out though or risk injuries) so they can become as fluid as possible in your tactic (match prep) set to team blend until December
5) ask your best players to recommend players for you, this for one builds up good relations with your best players (if you sign them) and will give you extra options when looking for players, (if you need certain players, just PM me :) do the same with coaches...
6) assign all your coaches to their best training positions, if you need to fill in certain positions like tatical, fitness etc go into staff search and click filter out unrealistic targets and set attributes to 16 of determination, motivating, discipline :) and go from there.. if you need more specific coaches go through the list below

7) do not give up if you lose the first 3 games or so, you will never learn the game if you just give up, go on and persevere this will only make you a better manager, if you get fired, look for another job and take it as if you were really this guy and in his position :)
8) download training schedules and import them into your game, add the players correctly to the specific training regimes and this will make setting up training easier for you :)
9) play players in the correct roles/duties when using a tactic or making a tactic, you cannot expect Andy Carrol to fill the poacher slot in a tactic and expect him to perform :)

10) good luck and don't give up :) it is rewarding once you know what you are doing, if you have any questions, feel free to PM and I will gladly get back to you :) below are very helpful threads that you should go through and use as mentioned above as well:

Or Just Be Your Fav Team And U will at least know what tactic to use and which players to sell and the basic stuff and dont worry if u come like 4th cause lots of people come 4th with Man U!!

Brilliant thanks for all the help everyone and I don't think I will be my favourite team, I support Darlington who play in the Blue Square Premier and I think they'll be to hard to start off with but great advice for someone who does support a Championship/Premier League team.
