hello guys, i have become stuck in what to do with this defensive issue i have, i will explain...

i play a 4-3-2-1 with 3CM1CAM2ST, as my team has no wingers that i can play, in order for me to have some width ( and it is important in my opinion) is to deploy Wingback support, in doing this it has left my defence so leaky with many gaps as these screen shots show,

this leaves huge gaps in my defence, i sorted this by applying full back supports, as shown here... and it has tightened my defence right up,

i am happy with that, but the problem i have now is, i dont get the same width as i did, and it is important in case my players get stuck up the pitch and they have someone to pass too, ive also got the CM dropping deeper in ball win defend, but this still dosent shore up defence, i need my full backs to support when going up field which i can do, but i need them to keep the tightness at the back, any ideas guys ?

Make sure you have tight marking ticked on your full backs.
Also tell them to hug the touchline, so that will give you width when I possession.
Don't give them alot of freedom or high mentality, that way when they do go forward they will still be aware of their defensive responsibilities.
I'd use zonal marking on all the players too.
What sort of dline are you playing high/low- normal?
What is your philosophy and game plan I.e do you control the game, counter ect..

Upload some more detail mate and you will get more feedback.

thanks for the advice guys, i shall upload more things in a minute, i will show you how i play, the tactic aint bad as i just finished 2nd in bundesliga with wolfsburg first season

Drop your ball winning midfielder to DM position and set him as anchor man or defensive midfielder. Ball winner's job is to win the ball high up the pitch, but anchorman stays in front of their CBs even when in attack. If your CB goes to cover the wingback, your anchor man could drop deeper, so not big gaps in defensive line.

^^ As stated above, anchor man is a very good option. Other option is to go a bit lopsided, and only have one of the full/wing back's bombing forward and setting the particular CM on that side on Defensive duty. You should also check your pressing. High-pressing is not recommendable when you're not fielding an anchorman of some sort.

Tactical things to consider:

1) If the opposing team is playing with two strikers, I recommend an anchorman. You still have 3 v 2 at the back, although your wing backs are pushing forward.

2) If the opposing team is playing with a lone striker, there's no actual need for an anchorman. If the striker likes to drop deep, tick tight marking always and set up defense to cover/stopper, so the other one follows the attacker. If the formation you're playing against has wingers, check out whether they track back your wing backs or do they rather stay up field. Usually if they're the home team, they'll stay up and then you should think twice about setting attacking duties on the defenders. If you're playing at home, it's a good thing to force them back on their own half with your attacking wing backs.

Hope that helps!

If the problem lies in you get exposés om the flanks, them perhaps you should try sniglar method to get width as there are plenty of ways. Let your outer mcs roam , huge the touchline and play wide( read nor narrow). You country play fullbacks om support and ask them to huge the touchline alpng with the outer mcs roaming
