Help needed to get my midfield scoring

I am Man City and play 4-4-2. I won Premiership and Carling Cup in my 1st and only season so far.

I play a standard 4-4-2

My ML/R Zhirkov, Srna, Santon, Bouanetta, Sanchez
My CM Veloso, Moutinho, Neeves, Fernandez, Johnson, Vidal

My top goal scoring midfielder was Veloso with 9. I reckon with your help my midfield could get alot more.

If you have a high goal scoring midfielder (CM & ML/R) can you post the individual instructions you have for them please. I don't want to change my formation; I just want to maximize it. Thank you all!

9 goals for a central midfielder in a 4-4-2 is actually very good - you generally won't get much more unless the player is a deadball specialist.

If you want to increase the chances of your midfielder scoring from the centre, increase his mentality, creative freedom and give him a free role (which will let him find more space). But it really does depend on how you play eg your midfielder won't have chance to get up to score if you're playing balls through for fast strikers to score from. And the downside to making him more attacking is that you either have to make the other midfielder more defensive to cover him or risk having a huge hole in the centre for the opposition to exploit.
