Help needed to make a decent 4-1-3-2 tactic...

I want to make an attacking 4-1-3-2 tactic for playing my squad away from home.

My players are used to short, expressive passing and are better at possession football than counter-attacking.
My best CMs are a box-to-box midfielder, an Attacking Mid (Attack), an Advanced playmaker (attack) - i have players who could do Ballwinning midfielder, and they can double as anhormen.

My forwards are a Target man (attack), a Poacher and a Trequartista. I have backup poachers too. My forwards are also quite versatile and can perform in a number of roles.

Where i'm really lost though is settings like width and tempo and passing, as well as marking, crossing etc....

All i know is that I'd really appreciate a tactic for away games which still looks to attack but is more defensive in formation (ie. has a DM) than the one i use for home (4-2-3-1 very attacking)

I have no wide players they are all central and have great technical ability. I'm league champion so every game is winnable but i find my home tactic is beginning to fail me away from home because i'm using the same tactic in every match.

Any help here would be v much appreciated!

If you have a creative striker (probably the Trequartista), make one striker a Deep-Lying Forward (Support) and the other a Poacher or an Advanced Forward. A Target Man is, of course, useful in winning crosses and aerial battles, but the latter is less common if you're trying to keep possession.

The midfield should be comprised of a more attacking midfielder (your Advanced Playmaker (Attack)) and two supporting midfielders on either side to connect the midfield to the attack--these can be Ball-Winning Midfielders, Box-to-Box Midfielders, Central Midfielders, or a combination of any of the three depending on the opposition.

The DMC slot can be either a Defensive Midfielder (Defend), or if the opposition has a particularly good attacking midfielder that you'd like to try and stop, an Anchorman.

The defense is self-explanatory. Use whatever defensive partnership you'd like (probably Defend - Defend if you're playing the offside game). Your full-backs should have Attack duties to provide width.

I'm not exactly sure what you're looking for for the team instructions though. If the main difference between your two systems is the defensive midfielder, then using the same instructions as those of your 4-2-3-1 should be fine.

If the main difference between your two systems is the defensive midfielder, then using the same instructions as those of your 4-2-3-1 should be fine.

Should i put my playmaker in the centre of the flat-3 midfield or on one of the sides? Would a BWM or a BBM be better in the centre due to them sticking to the center of the pitch when running back and forrth?

Do Treqs make good DLFs? Also, i'm assuming the attacking full backs are to help connect my strikers to midifeld with short passes? My only concern with that is that in these away games I'm often facing advanced wingers and all my touchthest opponents have wingers/strikers as their star players and my full backs are young & inexperienced in defence. I need to find a way to lock down the flanks so I'm not so often exposed on the counter. How might playing narrow help with this?

Should i use offside trap? Do i need to check the pitch dimennsions of opposition before setting my depth slider?

What types of tackling, marking & crossing would you recommend?

whenever i've tried a 4-1-3-2 with short passing i've struggled to connect the midfiled with the forwards. Can these marking/tackling settings etc... be helpful with this at all? I know formations but i dont know squat about the slider settings tbh
Oh and my DMCs are all natural anchormen but capable of DM/DLP roles also

I usually prefer that the playmaker is in the center; it makes everything look more symmetrical.

I'm not exactly sure what the Trequartista's role is in the game besides a false nine, so you'd be better off with using a Deep-Lying Forward (Support) as your second striker. It'd be even better if he had a "Comes Deep to Get the Ball" PPM so that he can be more involved in the build-up play, thus connecting your midfield to your attack.

To avoid being caught out on the counter, you could try using Ball-Winning Midfielders to quickly break down counters by making aggressive tackles and cynical fouls.

For everything else, I usually choose whatever settings fit the team best, comparing my team's attributes with those of the rest of the league--this can be seen under "Team Comparison" in the "Team Report". For example, if your team's average Decisions is second-highest in the league, then you can safely use "Press More". However if your average Aggression is second-lowest in the league, then you'd want "Cautious Tackling". If it's somewhere in the middle, then leave it at "Default". I'm not sure how well this works though, so don't take my word for it.

I didnt even know you could see average attrributes for the squad, only average age and personality.
