Depends where and how deep you look really. When Quieroz was Assistant, United were more of a fairly narrow but fluid 4-2-3-1/4-3-3 with Tevez dropping, Ronaldo and Rooney drifting in with a 3-man midfield triangle where usually Scholes would play an #8 Playmaker role with a supporting box-to-box midfielder and a more defensive minded midfielder beside them.
But Ferguson changed his team and their roles regularly. For Example, against Roma Ronaldo played CF with Rooney and Park wide whilst Scholes sat back more and Anderson went forward. Against Chelsea in the Champions League Final, they played almost a lob-sided 4-3-3 with Ronaldo cutting in from the left, Tevez up top and Rooney dropping from his narrow right flank position, whilst in midfield Hargreaves played almost as a Wide Midfielder holding down the right flank.
Probably the best link to use, but the key component really was the fluidity of the front three of Tevez, Ronaldo and Rooney constantly moving in and out of positions.
