Help with Man Utd tactics

I have recently created my own set of tactics for man utd using Guide to Football Manager | FM 2014 Guide
but i am still having very poor results, so could any of you football manager genius's help me, i dont think there could be alot wrong as i followed the guide very closely

Those tactics may be perfect for Set Pieces but, what about the rest of the game?

I play MU and best tactics are offensive. My team in the first year is:

De Gea
Rafael - DFC1 - DFC2 - Evra (DFC's should be Evans, Jones, Ferdinand, Vidic or Smalling... it's the same, they are beasts!)
MC1 (Advanced Playmaker) Carrick - MC2 (Box to Box) Fellaini
AMR Valencia/Nani - AML Young
ST1 Rooney/Alexandre Pato (Second striker) - ST2 Van Persie (Poacher)

I'm at first position in January, 4 points ahead City.
