Help with tactics for a reformed Chelsea team (FM handheld '12 android)

So, I've played with Chelsea for 2 seasons and after a disappointing first season I managed to win the league and the Champions cup (I used a 3-5-2 tactic with 2 DMs, 2 CMs and an AMC with pressing, direct passing and normal tackling, mentality was set to attacking against weaker teams, otherwise it was balanced by default/player roles were the same as the recommended roles on the player screen). However, even though I got a lot of transfer money and made some nice purchases to reinforce my positions, I'm literally getting destroyed in the first third of a season. So, what would you recommend for this team:

Cech, Courtois
Luiz, Terry , Ivanović, Chris Smalling , Phil Jones
Essien, Romeu, Khedira, Mikel, Moussa Sissoko, Ramires, Meireles, Lampard
Kalou, Mata, Ezequiel Lavezzi
Pato, Lukaku, Torres

As you can see, the defence can consist only out of 3 DCs (that's why I played with 2 DMs set on Deep-lying midfielder and it worked really well during the last season since I conceded a goal every 0.3 games), possibly 3 DCs + a sweeper (I trained Luiz for that position), but since I have so much top-quality CMs and DMs I think 3 defenders is enough, I'm just puzzled what should I do with the rest.

I'm also puzzled to why is an almost universally successful tactic so bad this season, since my team is even stronger now and I can rotate players on any position + a lot of premier league teams sold their best players to foreign clubs and they are still outplaying me like I'm leading a team from the third semi-professional Bolivian league.

i know it means changing ur team again however i have had two and a half seasons of brilliance (albeit man u)
using something similar to lone gunman tactic of cm01/02 if u were playing back then!

if not it heres an example

Only the wingers should cross and you should turn on pressing and offside on as the aim is to win the game in midfield. Also don't use man marking and play short and attacking.
I have had success using the wingers to mark however u need good stamina and work rate otherwise it could get embarrasing.

If u use lukaku i suggest using box to box for the amcs (it lets u pick it)
otherwise use dlp for the cms and ap for the amcs with pato torres.

use counter against the big teams and balanced play.

I have valencia and baines on wings as need wingers who can defend and crossing.
