he should be on support duty....both of your fullbacks should

Pure speculation here, but I wonder whether the issue is with the roles you have assigned to your central defenders. If Agger is going to cover effectively, he needs to be the spare man. With Johnson on the far side responsible for Blunt and Agger attempting to remain spare, that leaves two attackers in the middle for Sahko to deal with - so Jose Enrique has gone in-field to help Sahko. I would put both Agger and Sahko on Central Defender_Defend duty and see if that makes any difference.

Your team looks very open - both in the formation screen and in the match snapshot. Is De Lanley right-footed? If so, I'd switch him to Support duty and encourage him to Sit Narrower while allowing Jose Enrique to attack on the overlap. Meanwhile, switch Johnson to Support duty so you don't end up transitioning into 2-2-6 and being sprung on the break. I'd also have Sturridge on Support so that Suarez can get beyond him to become the main goal threat from the No.10 position - maybe try him as a Shadow Striker; Sturridge will still score plenty as a Complete Forward_Support. These changes will help to draw defenders out of position to create space for your attacking players to run through and in-behind.

You have close down (which drags him out of position) and mark tighter (which drags him out of position)

Why are you so amazed he`s being dragged out of position ?

lol

No need to be a douche, man. The problem here it seems from the screenshot is that he wasn't closing down anyone in particular except his own teammate at the center back position.

To the OP, I think the suggestion given by rocheyb is pretty sound. It might have to do with your center backs pairing's stopper/cover roles. But personally I think it's Sakho's stopper role that makes the defensive shape gone wrong. He seemed to be in the position to immediately closing down the potential pass to the opposition's two advance players. The other three tried to retain the shape in relation to where the ball is at that moment.

I see this a lot. It might have to do with playing "very fluid". I use wingbacks in the fullback/central defender row (e.g. not "pushed up into the wingback row) and they have to have huge pace/acceleration to cover up for this problem.

I think rocheyb is correct. It has to do with CD's duties. If sidebacks are going to be attacking, the cd's need to close down the empty space by both being stoppers. Or you could go with two defend duties and offside trap, but that will leave you vulnerable. If you want CD's on stopper cover duties, you should zonal mark, which means no hassling, and dropping the defensive line. Covering defender in stopper cover combo wont perform well if asked to man mark and close down. Mixed agression (one closing down early, one later) doesn't work well with offside trap either.
