How do I know who to play in what position?

I'll try explaining this without complicating it.

How do I know for example, which midfielders are box-tobox men or ball-winners. It says there position e.g. DMC/MC but how do I know if they should play as box-to-box, deep-lying playmakers, ball-winning midfielders etc.

I need to know this for all positions, not just midfield as I have stated above.
