How do u setup a network game?!

Last few days I've been trying to playa network game with my m8, but he has trouble connecting.
When he gets in the game freezes and he can't do anything.
So do people use hamachi or is jus thru the steam servers?
Or does anything need to changed?

used to be through hamachi but now its just with steam servers, we have had problems connecting too, maybe his connection is bad

Nah we've bin playing together since 2011 n never had problems like this
