How the **** do I set up an Network game?

Ok, I know there's a section for this but you always get faster responces in this section and I kind of need an answer by tonight!

Me and a few buddys are wanting to set-up a network game, nothing massive just the English Leagues.
I created one and told him the name and password to join, then told them my IP (Well what i thought was my Ip address, is it the ID thing?) But they aint being able to join..

Is there a reason for this? do you have to do it a certain way?

Any help is highly appreciated.

Download hamachi and use your hamachi Ip Address. Create new network on hamachi then tell your mates The network name n password then they can join your network.
