I want to know if it is possible to buy players for less than they are worth as i tried to sign benzema and he was estimated at 6.5mill and Lyon then asked for 25 mill! how can i get them to lower it????:D

You could try and befriend the manager. That is supposed to make it easier to get bids accepted.

And does declaring interest in a player affect those in your own squad of the same position? Seen that in previous versions of FM...

Normally clubs ask for more than they will accept..well that was the case on fm08...In this case a bid of around 20million would have been accepted on 08, so if 09 is similar then they are unlikely to hold out for 25million.

Alternatively you could scout around for a less high profile player who will get you as many goals a season as Benzema and cost around half the price.

unfortunatley it can, youve got to weigh up the pro's and con's of the situation

Also, if you are at the negotiation stage where you want to pay say 1 or 2 million less, putting your offer at 'non-negotiable' can make them accept.

Most of the time with FM 09 they'll just come back at you with there offer rather than accepting yours.

the only thing i ever found efective, is offering them 50% of next sale, buy back price of like £50m+, and arrange friendly, (u dnt even have to arrange the friendly) i dno sometimes that does something, like on fm08, i got aguero for 16m in first season normally have to pay like 38-60m

Addind a high percentage of next sale always helps. But obviously if you ever sell the player on you will lose a lot of money.

For sum reason a few juventus players can be bought for cheap. Camorenesi (value 7.5, i got him for 6.5 - v.good for my Arsenal team too), Trezeguet (value 10+, get him for around if not lower) and finally Amauri (worth 17 but accept 13 or summat like tht- but nevr comes in first season cos hes happy at new club)

One problem tho is tht whenever i try and befriend a anuvva manager. my players get annoyed cos i shudnt be praising other managers or whatever.

Also, i got Juninho (worth around 4, got him for 3 summat) as a specialist set piece taker, only to find out hes only 17 at free kicks! serves me right for not checking before i bought him, but i wrongly assumed sum1 who makes keepers **** themselves whenever he has a free kick anywhere but the opposition penalty box (slight exaggeration) wud be 20!!! irrelevant but it ****** me off, especially when people like ronaldo are 19 or summat, nd hes scored ONE good free kick.

another way might be to start the game earlier. lets say if u r plying EPL, dont start with england (july 2008), but try starting earlier with other nation's league. i have a friend who started his liverpool game at (jan 2008) and alot of players are much cheaper. especially young players...

tsk, tsk, you dont want to do that?

I might try the old 50% of next sale tactic then. I can't nornally afford to buy players that I'm not gonna keep for a long while, so that clause may not hinder me too much...

When I was playing as Barcelona I got Van de Vaart for less than his price, why?

hehe, you are lucky to have him for that 25M! I play with liverpool and want benzema, but lion want 'Nothing more than 99M' :'( ... I give them 90M but they reject me! Is that real???

i would have done 25m non negotiable lol

my approach is to send a scout first and let him make a report card (you don't have to wait untill they play games then), this will include and approximately value that you have to bid in order to sign the player. this will also tell that the player is interested in joining your club or not, and if the club wants to sell or not because they just attracted the player, very useful to get that report card asap.
my next step is to make a bid, I check the result on the report card and make a bid that's just 1 or 2 million beneath that, add a percentage of next sale clause of 50% to it and complete the offer, it's good to add some monthly installments as well. sometimes I declare interest but not to often, only if the player says that he "doesn"t want to be held at the club" or something like it...

it's best to get the good players early in the game (first transfer window if possible) because their value and asking price will go up as they will get more teams adding up the bidding list. and overall, just try to be in front of man city because they will buy all the gems, first season with my Arsenal team and I lost moutinho to man city, marcelo as well... they already spend 190million € on transfers in the first season.

If you're a semi-decent club, Pato from Milan will start rejecting contracts towards the end of the first season. Usually resulting in Milan touting him round Europe for £10M. Pato is rated as a Wonderkid and a bargain at that price. Worth saving the pennies.
