how to grade/rank players

hi forum,
i have read some posts around here saying things like +175 and -181 and am intrigued as to what this means. i would like to be able to grade my players more in depth than using the stars. thanks

These figures refer to people using the editor or tools suchvas fmrte to find out what a player has as current ability / potential ability. I consider it cheating personally but each to their own.
