How to Make DMC Act as Third DC?

I did this at Napoli.

Anchor Man, Set Him to Max Defensive, Own Area on Pressing, No Creative Freedom, Cautious Tackling.

Sorted. :)

I'm perfecting this at the moment, got Mascherano/Busquets sitting just in front of the defence. They're essentially a little triangle with the DMC just in front of the two CBs; the DMC essentially acts like a stopper which gives my attacking wing backs time to track back to become a back four again. Not totally Barcelona-esque, but I think it's about as good as it's gonna get.

This was achieved by setting Masch/Busquets as an Anchor Man, and setting all the sliders to the absolute minimum, and having run with ball, run from deep etc. as rarely. I've got mine on zonal marking with no roaming from position, so I guess he just marks the area in front of the two CBs and doesn't move much. Additionally, it might help if your DMC had the PPMs of 'stays back at all times', 'plays short, simple passes' and 'runs with ball rarely'. Hope some of this helps mate.

Set him as defensive as possible, and make his settings close to that of a DC. PPM comes deep to get ball is useful.

Exactly what I have. A little triangle as well.

I have it sorted it now after hours of trying :D

SHAREEEE!!!

I currently have my DMC set as an Anchor Man with every slipper done to 0 (left side). It isn't showing up how I would like in the average position analysis, but I am pretty sure he isn't getting forward much.

I haven't conceded a goal in 7 league matches with the tactic, but have only managed to score 9. Conceded three times in Europa league though, but have scored 7 in 2 two matches. The thing is, it is creating a lot of chances but the strikers just aren't finishing, very frustrating.

You are too hung up on the formation. We all get that way when looking at tactics. So many times we see a formation as a 4-3-3 but it really plays like a 3-4-3. Or a 4-2-3-1 which actually plays like a 4-1-4-1. In FM if you want your team to play like a 3-4-3 then play them as a 3-4-3. Play the left and right center defenders with a defend duty and play the middle one as a ball playing defender-stopper. That will probably give you the closest to what you are trying to get.

Its more fun this way, taking the easy way it out is lame and for quitters. I have a tactical idea in mind and I wish to achieve it, and that is what I will do.

That is for all you haters out there who keep telling me to just play three center backs. That's what I did for the last two seasons and now decided it was time for my tactic to mature to something else.

You do get the only time Barcelona really did this was against Atletico Madrid towards the start of this season?

oh. & Velveti has been going on about a 'perfect' Barcelona tactic for the past 2 years - still yet to see one released...

"modern-centre-half"
http://www.zonalmarking.net/2010/04/22/is-the-sweeper-set-for-a-return-to-prominence/modern-centre-half/

this best show what it does. Hopefully someone can do it I have been trying since FM 2010 fingers crossed it will be a recognised role in FM 2012

I think iNick had an article on how to do this next up on his list, but since he is on a break because of school it wont be coming out for a while.

Reading that article it sounds like you should set him to defensive with short passing and closing down to whole pitch so that he is moving around the pitch breaking up attacks.

Schweinsteiger tried it in the Bayer v Dortumund 3-1 defeat and the defeat to Mainz
Sergio Busquets did it for spain world cup final against holland

theres probably more but sometimes it doesnt look like 3 cbs with middle cb sitting just ahead of the other 2

Another way is the third CB to mark the highest mid so when you lose the ball the cb charges toward his marker but there is no way of making a CB drop deep to form a back 3
