You notice that your good tactics doesnt last so long before being beaten by the AI. This is how FM works, after using same tatic many times the AI find a counter tactic and your good tactic becomes useless. For every new season you need 2 or 3 new tactics to replace you old cracked ones, when a tactic is cracked you will know it when you start get beaten home by lower clubs, or when you start having 1-0 or 2-1 difficult wins at home against bottom table teams !!

The AI simply cheats to crack your tactic. The AI uses statistics to find which tactic through all the games you have played was best against yours. Eventually your tactics that you have played in the past get cracked. And after 4-5 season the game starts to be more difficult because you simply run out of tactics.

I have a simple method but I am not totally 100% sure about it, someone needs to experiment on it but I am too lazzy to do that. The method is that when you start a match don't start with your Good Tactic start with any the tactic, then during the game switch back to you good tactic, and before the game ends switch back to the first tactic.

Lets say your good tactic is 4-2-2-2 and you want to protect it from being cracked, start the match with 4-4-2 and after the game starts by 2 minutes switch to 4-2-2-2 and before 2 minutes from the game end switch back to 4-4-2. When the match ends check the match formations from fixtures and you will notice that your tactic was not recognized :D. I believe the AI will be confused and will consider that you played 4-4-2 formation.

yes that really gets my mind going. it makes sense, since every pre game backroom advice tells you what formations you and the opposition struggle and do well against.

yeah your tactic mostly gets dry during the 2nd season so i'll try this mate, thanks alot.

Well put mate. 100% true my tactic the first season i only lost 3 times and i'm on in January in my second season and have lost 4. Makes sense and i'm gonna give this a go.

Very true about the AI ruining class tactics.

I had a quite good 4-4-2 going with my Blackburn team in the 2nd season, which helped me finish 2nd in the league with an average team, and then the next season I'm struggling vs Hull etc in the first few games. Luckily enough I modified a few player roles and team instructions and went on to beat Barcelona 2-1 at home in the Champions League. ^^)

i've sort of expected this, just came to the point where i was cracked 100% too. Got beat 0-1 away by Hearts, 2-2 at home against Falkirk, just months after i reached the CL semis with Celtic.

Does anyone know how much rearranging the tactics needs? is it enough with changing a few roles?

Changing a few roles can help but team instructions is most important tbh. It's things like passing , how you press the opposition and also your philosophy.

Cheers, it's getting frustrating to say the least.

Changing players roles is not enough, the main structure of the tactic is what important when we are talking about counter tactics (for example changing player position). Other factors like changing passing styles or wide play style can be considered a variation from the main tactic, it certainly helps but will still be weak against certain counter tactics.

Id rather not try your theory, no offense because this is another thing which i love about fm because it just adds to the realism of the game. In real life managers tactics eventually get cracked so...

Actually this method works fine with me, I used to changed 2-3 tactics every season. but after using this method my new tactic is still unbeaten for a whole season .. I will test it for another season to see.

you may still get scrambled if you accidentally played against a specific tactic that is so good against yours, but it will not be recognized (or remembered) by the AI as counter tactic (because we cheated the AI :)) and your tactic will still be secure.

I have a different tactic for the stature of the club I am facing, for example

v Man Utd/Chelsea/Arsenal-Defensive
home v weaker teams-attacking
away v strong teams-counter
When holding on-contain

and so on and so on

in real life your Man Utd never loses against Hull at home, because their manager suddenly found the magic counter tactic against you.. that is not realistic for sure.

to be honest FM is not real football simulation, it depends purely on statistics on every thing. If you ever noticed a player will have almost same stats (goals/assists/Av Rate) in every season, what the heck is that? it is like whatever you do with this particular player he cannot have more than 9 assists or more than 7.01 av.rating per season.
