See this scenario, my team is leading 3/4-0, and 65-70minutes are coming up.
Somehow I always concede in these last 20minutes or so, undependent how good the opponent are.

My tactic is a fluid 4231 control/attack, higher defense line, offside trap, retain possesion, playing tighter, press more.

So the question is:
How can I slow down tempo and totally control the game in, without slipping a goal at the end.

I have tried to change this to a more counter tactic at the end of the matches, deeper defense line, shorter passing, standard or counter philosofy, structured, keep in position, more disciplined.
I have also tried to reshape it to a 451 and a 4231 with 2 DMs, Mourinho style..

Unfortunately, all with no luck.

All suggestions are welcome :)

Counter is the wrong strategy to control and slow down a game. I change to control or contain depending on the circumstances of the match, and change to much slower tempo, play safer and waste time. You could also change formation to flood the midfield.

Thanks for response :)

How do you use the defense line?
Is the slow down tempo tactic something to use from start agains better opposition away?

I basically have 3 versions of the same tactic. One is Overload, one Control and one Contain. I don't change the shape (defensive line) or defending (pressing) usually, but sometimes will change the possession, penetration or general instructions during a match.

That is basically what I am trying to develop too.
I have a Control/Attacking tactic, where I create alot of chances, but I need one where I can tighten up at the back.
And one for heavy away matches :)

Droping the D-Line in those games is calling for the opposition to dominate the match. The secret is to concentrate your team and make them not running from deep as much as the start of the game. Like fuelledbypassion said the Control and Contain are very good strategies for that purpose, but beware that sometimes lowering tempo may turn against you ! :)

Thank you! I agree in what you are saying here.
What exactly would you do to make the players not run from deep as much? Change player roles, or is it a simple shout to make them stay back?

Try to have more support or defend roles, and defensive strategies ! :)
