HSV - Rise of the Red Shorts
Hamburger SV had only just appointed coach Armin Veh but he realised he had personal issues to deal with at home as family matters most, Hamburger SV had to think quick with the season approaching soon, so they snapped up unknown manager Nathan Williams, a former semi-professional footballer and manager. Fans are questioning this appointment as he is unknown, however Nathan Williams realised this statement " I know I am not well known or have much experience but HSV wanted a fresh face in football and they picked me for the job "
With a season budget of £0 Williams had to think about how to improve his current squad, four players were sold to raise some funds with Castelen Romeo joining Arsenal for £2.2m, Jonathan Pitroipa joining Stoke for £2.2m, Jose Paolo Guerrero joining Barcelona for £2.6m and David Jarolim joining Lyon for £5m which gave Williams a nice £12m to spend on new faces bringing in 5 players, Tobias Linderoth on a free transfer, Gael Kakuta from Chelsea for a loan fee of £500k with a future fee of £6m, Costel Pantilimon from FC Timisoara for £2.8m, Anthony Annan from Rosenborg for £3.3m and Thomas Prager from LASK for £900k
Anthony Annan - the new up and coming star for HSV?
Pre season went smooth for HSV with four wins out of six with the other two games being draws.
HSV kick start their season with a home game against Randers FC for a Europa League 3rd Round Qualifer
Only time will tell if Nathan Williams has got what it takes to take HSV to the top again since last winning the German First Division in 1983
