First of all, are you sure about that???? I will advice you -in game; go to preferences and check your version.
If it is not, then your automatic update is off.
So, go your library in steam. Under the serach button( left top corner), you will see "FM 2012" with higlighted.
Right click the writing (FM 2012), a new list will open, here choose properteis.
Here, a new windows will open, choose "Update"- at the top tab...
Choose- if you didnt set previously- "always keep this game up to date"
Then go to "Local Files" section, and here choose "verify integrety of game casche"- this will also check your game needs any updates or so!!!
Hope this will fix your game, and continue to play- without starting a new game.
