I cannot find my saved tactics during match

As the title says, they are nowhere to be seen. I have saved maybe 4 different personalised formations/tactics and can clearly see them before the game but during the game when i want to change they are no there.

Am I doing something really blatantly wrong?

Hey, I think I made the same mistake as you when I first started playing this year's game (first time I'd played it since 2009).

In your Tactics screen there should be a 'Create New Tactic +' button above where you pick your team. There are 3 allotted spaces here for you to put your formations/tactics in. So upload one of the tactics, then hit 'Create New Tactic +' & do the same. Doing this will make the tactics easily accessible in the match.

I think the mistake you're making (as I did first time I played it) is trying to run 4 tactics from one allotted space.
