Can Leeds find that fire power without departed star Jermaine Beckford?

Last season, Leeds United celebrated finally escaping the clutches of 3rd tier football, with a nailbiting last day win over Bristol Rovers. Leeds fell behind after the sending off of winger Max Gradel, but goals from Jonny Howson and Jermaine Beckford saw the Whites seal promotion, ending their period in League 1. United have been very busy in the transfer window, with a few big signings, such as Kasper Schmeichel, son of the leggendary Peter. They have also signed Honduran International Ramon Nunez, and former Cardiff City striker Ross McCormack. This wasnt to say Leeds didnt lose players, as star stricker Jermaine Beckford left to Premier League Everton on a free transfer.

Ins: Kasper Schmeichel, Sanchez Watt, Amdy Faye, Ross McCormack, Fede Besson, Paul Connoly, Alex Bruce, Neil Collins, Ramon Nunez, Lloyd Sam

Outs: Jermaine Beckford, Lubomir Michalik, Andy Robinson, Tresor Kandol, Rui Marques

THE TEAM

Leeds are strong here. Schmeichel will be a great keeper for years, and Higgs provides very fine backup.

Perhaps the most worry area of the pitch for Leeds. They have strength in depth, but as most fans agree, not a great deal of quality. Connolly is a very good defender, as is Kisnorbo and Bruce.

Again, they look strong here. Gradel and Sam both provide great wing play, Howson, Johsnson and Kilkenny are all very good down the middle. Mr Versatile Hughes can play anywhere if needed, and it looks as if young Adam Clayton will be loaned out for experience this season, as the young former Man City player looks to get first team experience.

Overall, this could be the position for Leeds. Watt and Snodgrass on the wings will be good competition, along with Gradel and Sam. Elliot will be loaned out for experience, as will Grella. For the 2 striker positions, they have Ross McCormack, formely a leading Championship striker, near 20 goal striker for 2 year Luciano Becchio, South African upstart Davide Somma and 29 goal Billy Paynter, Leeds have a great strikeforce.

Overall, Leeds will not go down, but its hard to see them going up at this stage. A season of consolidation is to be expected.

Prediction: 17th

|| Championship Season Starts Here! ||

Today, we mark the start of what should be a fantastic season of Championship football. The Championship has got even better this year, as three huge names joined clubs in the off season. Edgar Davids joined Crystal Palace on a pay as you play deal, which should add some star quality to a struggling Eagles team. England international David James joined Bristol City for Geographical reasons, a signing which could help City push on towards the Premiership. Arguably the signing of the summer, Man City wantaway Craig Bellamy has joined his hometown club, Cardiff City, on loan. This surely makes Cardiff one of the favourites going into the season.
After a promising pre season, Simon Grayson's Leeds United kick off their Championship campaign at home to relegation candidates Watford.

Leeds 3-0 Watford
Johnson 2, Becchio

A fantastic start to the season saw Leeds smash a poor Watford City side by 3 goals, as Elland Road cheered the team on. Leeds proved they would be no pushovers in this division, and this result can only help that. Left midfielder Bradley Johnson scored 2 good goals, and Becchio added the third to seal the win.

Bradford 3-4 Leeds [Carling Cup]
Johnson 2, Bromby, Becchio

Bradford City where so, so close to causing an upset, at the hands of their rivals Leeds. Leeds romped to an early 2-0 lead, until Bradford pulled one back. Bradford chased the game, and Leeds added a third on a quick counter attack. Bradford added a 2nd goal in the 88th minute, as Leeds started to look shaky. In the 90th minute, the breakthrough came, as Bradford equalised. They thought they had extra time, but a 94th minute header by Luciano Becchio secured Leeds' path into the next round, and broke Bradford's hearts. They will now face Preston in the second round of the Carling Cup.

Scunthorpe 1-3 Leeds
Sam, Becchio, Paynter

A fairly routine win for Leeds keeps up their promising start to the season, and leaves them as the early leaders in the Championship. Scunthorpe rarely threatened, and only a mistake by Paul Connolly let them score, as Leeds threatened to have 5 or 6. Sam and Becchio gave Leeds a comfortable lead, as Scunthorpe scored. Shortly after, debutant Billy Paynter added the third, as Leeds start impressively.

Leeds 1-1 Bristol City
McCormack

It was a day of injuries for Leeds, as 2 key players got injuries that will see them out for a few games. Young left back Aidan White, who has been attracting interest from Arsenal lately, got an injury that will keep him out for around 2 months. Striker Ross McCormack will be out for around 3 weeks, in a blow for Leeds. They started strongly, with McCormack giving them the lead just before half time, but Bristol City fought back, and eventually got a late equaliser in the 85th minute. Leeds are still unbeaten, but will be dissapointed that they didnt take all 3 points.

Leicester 3-1 Leeds
Becchio

Leeds were poor today, with the defence being a huge downfall. The full backs were shockingly bad, as Grayson layed into his team for such a poor performance. The goals they conceded were all from mistakes, one from Paul Connolly, and two from debutant Federico Bessone. Grayson would be stupid to pick Bessone again, and he may call upon reserve team left back Ben Parker to fill in for injured Aidy White. Becchio added another goal to his tally, the only highlight in a dissapointing day.

Leeds 2-1 Preston [Carling Cup]
Becchio, Nunez

Leeds bounced back from the dissapointment of Leicester with a 2-1 win over Preston in the cup. Becchio again scored another goal, with Honduran international Ramon Nunez adding the second before Preston grabbed a late consolation goal. Grayson will be pleased with his players in grabbing the victory, and can now look forward to the possibility of facing a Premiership team in the next round. The draw was made before the next game, and Leeds drew Premiership team Stoke City, in what should be a close, hard fought game.

Leeds 0-0 Norwich

A close, tense game, which neither team deserved to win, and neither did. No keepers really had any saves to make, and it was definately a day for the defences of both teams, as strikers couldnt get a sniff of goal. Leeds end the month in 13th place, a very respectable position for Simon Grayson's men. They have a +3 goal difference, and sit 2 points off the top 6, which is a fantastic start for the newly promoted team. Things look good for Grayson, and can only get better in coming months.

Nice layout and a pretty good start will be following :)
