Every time I make something that works very well, it gets nerfed...In my save it's no longer possible to pick standard mentality, and both retain and regain possession at same time. You need to pick just one of those, a style...which makes this thread obsolete...However, stuff that should work properly, doesn't, for some reason. I will post a few tactics with specific styles soon, but I can't gurantee they will work, since they are obviously still patching the game...

Before downloading what are the formations for each tactic?

This is the opening match of the season with my Burnley side using defend tactic against ManU. Burnley has limited defenders and limited fullbacks, so I opted for defend tactic.

Is anyone having any luck with any of these? Which one needs improving?

Thought about it for a while, and then changed counter tactic to pump ball into box, instead of clear to flanks. I also chose Exploit the middle to take full advantage of this. It should work well with a poacher or advanced forward, and now you can use counter style in a narrow formation. Testing so far confirms this, both my young team and my seniors are winning matches, however, you will have trouble against teams who play the offside trap...

When to use what tactic and why? =)

When you have nothing else to do, or when you keep losing with other peoples tactics, or if it's new years eve and youre not sleepy or going out with friends, or when you have no girlfriend, or when you are married....

Joking aside, you should use the one that fits your team...as you can see, highly structured plays with limited defenders and limited fullbacks, structured plays with fullbacks and attacking wingers, fluid plays with a supporting sweeper keeper and supporting striker, and very fluid plays with all roaming roles...

Haha, good answer ;) Which one do you think for Manchester Uniteds team?

All tactics have been updated, control now features 442 formation, just for the fun of it, and attack features 4231 Wide, as I think it suits the TI most...

hi igneos79. first of all, congratulations to your tactics.
still have not tested any of your tactics, for more than 5-6 games, but for me are perfect as playing style sample.
I also like your tactics because they do not use instructions to the players individually. is easier to change something.
I would love, if you start a thread with several formations and playing styles for these formations, as you did here, with the asymmetric formation. please do it! I need it more than water to drink :)
thank you for tactics that you already did and excuse any errors in English, I'm from Portugal.

Well, thank you for your compliments, but this is all a learning process for me. I was wrong on numerous occassions, and instructed people badly because of lack of common football knowledge. I am not a fan of any club, I don't support any team, nor do I watch football on tv or go to matches. I'm just a gamer. I still don't have the willpower to play a whole season, one loss and I'm back to drawing board. I want perfection. However I never felt player instructions were needed, If you really want a different approach from a player, simply change his role. Usually it is because of TI's, team shape or team mentality that he doesn't behave the way you want him to, so before changing any PI, you should make sure everything is setup correctly. I believe you need a DM if you play superdefence style. I also believe you need a stopper cover combo in a flat formation and play on counter in that case, and I also believe you should play with LDd's if you want to push up and play on offside trap and you don't need DM's in that case. So you can pick a defending style and formation accordingly and just use my settings...

that's why I like your tactics. because you help me understand what the best team shape, roles and duties for the different formations and playing styles.
and because I like to play with small teams and your tactics are not all attack or control as all the others that are on the site, where the creators say they are plug n 'play. i don't want a complex tactic (and sometimes with strange instructions that I can not understand) even when I win everything with my team. I need to understand how my team plays and the instructions must look like in real life.
for me it's better to lose 3-2, with my oxford united against man utd playing in counter attack, but see that my players have created some chances to score than win 1-0 playing in control with strange tatic. makes the game look real to me.
I like the guide written by Damien Rice "team shape, roles and duties guide", recommended by you. do you folow this guide to create your tatics ??
4411 this is perfect for my oxford utd players. you can make a version with a DM (4141) and another with two strikers (442) or give me some advice on what the best roles to play with the DM and two strikers ??
now I thank you for your effort into creating these tactics and help others with some advice.

It's easy to create it following rules...this is an old thread that you should read http://www.fm-base.co.uk/forum/foot...ow-set-up-effective-defence-centre-backs.html From it you will learn base defending styles, and opt for an approach and for a formation. After that, read damien rice thread about roles and duties, and after that, go to www.guidetofootballmanager.com and read about tactical styles...

According to damien rice, both strikers should be on same duty, unless you are playing very fluid. In very fluid, you can chose one support and attack duty, which should be ideal. Or, you could perhaps go highly structured, and for example play with two poachers, but you will need a creative player behind them, an AMC, with support duty to both create chances for them, and not make them isolated...

All 4 tactics have been updated, and I have written OP again, so now you can easily pick what suits your team best.

hopefully, last update. Everything should be in order now.
