Is anyone else getting fed up with the transfer system on FM14?
I'm schalke, in my 4th season now and I've just won the champions league for the first time = lots of transfer budget.
I'm playing a 4231, and my top 4 of draxler, de bruyne, lamela and volland is absolutely perfect. So I thought maybe I'll bring in another central midfielder to improve my midfield of strootman and bender (who are 3.5 and 4 stars respectively) ...
I've scouted loads of central midfielders, and 4 star players such as Tiago,Wilshere,Pogba,Vidal etc. have come up under realistic transfers and so I thought i'd try and get a decent player of this calibre, bearing in mind I'm now 2nd ranked in the world for reputation.

However none of them listed above (and even more will sign for me) they're interested in signing etc but the clubs are always 'Unlikely to want to sell', is anyone else finding an issue with signing key players? Its not very realistic as if real life was like this then no transfers would ever happen!
Thoughts?

Would you sell your best players? They don't want to sell theirs either. That's not FM's fault. What you could do, since you've won the CL and had a nice rep boost too, is try to unsettle these players. Make a bid and see what happens. Will the player get upset at his club for rejecting the bid? Declare interest in him to make him aware you're interested. Do some groundwork first and keep an eye on these players after you've done it. Otherwise, move on to other targets.

Your reputation will increase the likelihood of the players wanting to join but not the clubs wanting to sell. Talk to the media and try to unsettle them. Personally, I don't think it would be very realistic if clubs wanted to sell their best players, just based on your club rep. Clubs that are unlikely to want to sell their best players will just demand a higher transfer fee if you can't unsettle them, which is realistic in my opinion.

The same thing happens in real life as well: Gareth Bale, Falcao & Cristiano Ronaldo for example.

Even for me with Man Utd, those players be willing to join but the club will never sell. The only amount I found they would accept is 200 million pounds. You could always split it over 48 months. Out of the players which you mentioned, Thiago has been the only realistic transfer target for me.

cheers for the responses, I've done all the declaring interest etc. but I'm just getting a bit fed up with it now, all this money and noone worth buying. Fair enough if it had an estimated cost and would let me put a bid in but they just outright won't even consider selling half decent players, which is annoying because I constantly get under-value bids for my players!

Also, has anyone noticed a distinct lack of quality full-backs a few seasons in? I need a new right back and there is noone I can buy more than 3.5 stars, either they're not interested in signing or the club isn't interested in selling :(

You know the star rating is relative to the rest of your squad? Your best bet after 3-4 seasons would be to sign regens, which there is plenty of, with huge potential. I just signed a 5* right back 4 seasons in with Liverpool for 8 mil.

But if you're after real players then look at Layvin Kurzawa, De Sciglio, Carvajal, Peruzzi, Serge Aurier.

I agree that opposition teams are too keen to hold onto players. After a season at Real Madrid I wanted a world class CM/DM so I offered Juve 100M for either Vidal and Pogba.

A world record, yet they didn't budge or even renegotiate.....

I once bid on Varane, Umtiti and Zouma, all bids of over 100 million pounds each, not one of their clubs wanted to negotiate, all 3 players wishing to join me too, so so unrealistic

You guys are not getting it. If it's a key player and he's happy at the club, they won't want to sell. You can offer whatever you want, the fact is that they don't want to sell. Move on to someone else then. Either do some groundwork or move onto someone who is younger and has the potential to be world-class, but isn't there yet.

What are of ye are suggesting is far from realistic. Otherwise, the 3-5 best players in every team, Europe wide, would be swapping club every season. In real life there are few reason a player leaves.

For example
1) The manager decided that's they are not a fit for their tactical structure.
2) finances mean that they need the cash injection.
3) the player falls out with the manager
4) They have outgrown the club.

World class players getting transferred are extremely rare and require special circumstance. Why else do you always hear managers saying "if they become available"? You might have the cash to be able to buy players but the club needs to agree to sell first, and in the case of, say Pogba for one, why on earth would you sell him? . . . . for any amount of money. What amount of money could possibly be worth loosing him?

No top team will gladly accept your offers for their key player, even if it's an exaggerated one. Even a not so top team will try to squeeze as much as possible from you.

The rule on negotiation is: if you really want a player you will probably overpay. In my Saint Etienne game I was very good at finding bargains in my first 3 or 5 seasons. Then I got rich and lazy and would just break record fees if I really, really wanted someone.

Leave the players you want on your shortlist, if there's some change in the situation at the club you will receive notice. Another thing, go to transfer central and look for players in their last 24, 18, 12, 6 months of contract. From 18 months on their price will decrease. Keep an eye open for that, it works wonders. New riches like PSG, City, Monaco are very volatile and will spend a fortune on a player, barely play him and devaluate him. I got James Rodrigues for 8m euros. He scored 4 goals on 4 UCL finals. Also, Spain has a obligatory minimum release fee.

Tell your scouts to look for new talents, after sometime regens are the way to go anyway - though you should not be surprised if they charge an obscene amount anyway for a future world class player.

Unlikely to want to sell is connected with how recently they signed new contract. So when u plan to buy a player you need to monitor that.

Anti-Arsenal pundits and "fans" alike need to read this thread ;)

All your BS is coming to a halt.

Cheers for the replies everyone, its just aggravating, if they don't want to sell i'll declare interest to try and unsettle them but then they just sign a new contract!
I did it with suarez to see if I could get him, bear in mind he's 29 now on my save... ?59 M they want for him, thought stuff that!

My schalke save I'm being flooded with quality full-backs from my own youth academy. I really struggle to find quality Ball winning midfielders, either they aren't good enough for my squad or I'd just have to try and re-train a player to a BWM. Pain in the ***.

Honestly if you have the finances then you'll likely have to pay a large amount to get the signings you want, if you're a rich club, it seems the AI will extort the **** out of you. Can't blame them, if I had a star player and I didn't have to sell, only huge amounts of money might sway me.
