AC Milan and Allegri part ways
Massimiliano Allegri leaves Milan by mutual consent.
Massimiliano Allegri has left AC Milan on good terms after the two parties mutually agreed to go their separate ways. Allegri has left the club after the team finished third in Serie A last season. Allegri's job had been the subject of widespread media reports in Italy after Fiorentina almost leapfrogged the club. Milan and Allegri both released statements thanking each other for their work. AC Milan are understood to not be considering Clarence Seedorf for the position and the job's availability is not to do with the Milan legend's retirement. The favourite for the job is Andre Villas-Boas who lost his job at Spurs after the club finished in fifth place last season. Also in the running are Giovanni Trappatoni and former Juventus player Mario Van Gerwen.

AC Milan appoint Mario Van Gerwen as manager
Former Juventus player given one year contract with il Diavolo.
AC Milan have replaced Massimilano Allegri with retired Dutch international Mario Van Gerwen. Van Gerwen retired from professional football in 2008 at the age of 34 scoring 328 goals in 545 career games. Van Gerwen's career began as a youngster with ADO Den Haag, the club he has always followed and he spent eight years at the club before joining Real Madrid in 1998 for ?23.5 million. Van Gerwen's time in Madrid ended after a season where he joined Juventus for ?34 million after a blistering season in Spain. Van Gerwen spent three years in Turin before signing a pre-contract agreement with Ajax. Van Gerwen spent four years with Ajax before ending his career with his beloved Den Haag. Van Gerwen scored 80 goals in the UEFA Champions League and 140 goals in the Eredivisie. Van Gerwen has previously worked as a Director of Football for ADO Den Haag and worked as a coach with Premier League club Arsenal. Van Gerwen chose to play for the Netherlands despite being eligible for Italy. Mario's mother is from Milan and his father, the Hague. Van Gerwen scored 39 goals in 80 international games.

Berlusconi to invest in AC Milan
Owner decides after losses to inject transfer funds for new manager
AC Milan are being lined up for a cash injection of ?30 million into their transfer budget. Reports circulated that new AC Milan manager Mario Van Gerwen was to be given an initial budget of ?6,000,000 but the owner of the club announced in a press conference that he would be giving Van Gerwen a 'significant' budget for the window.
The media, they go and say I am giving him this amount, that amount. It's none of their business how I run my football club. However, after extensive deliberation with the board, I have decided to give Mr. Van Gerwen a significant budget which is enough to help our team win the league. I will comment no further on the matter and consider this finished.

REPORTER: So Mr Van Gerwen, you've got the job at Milan fighting off other managers like Giovanni Trappatoni and Andre Villas-Boas. How does it feel?
MARIO: It feels great! I've always had something for AC Milan. Whenever they would be on the TV, I'd sit and watch. Clarence Seedorf was a great player and Paolo Maldini is Milan's greatest ever player in my opinion and his father Cesare is a Milan legend. I feel honoured that I've been given the chance to manage this great club. I had offers to manage other teams but when the offer from Milan came in I couldn't say no. I've played against Milan before when I was at Juventus and playing at the San Siro gave me goosebumps.
REPORTER: You get the job with no managerial experience, do you think that will affect you?
MARIO: No, I don't to be honest. I've been coaching in football for the last five years and I've worked with some great managers. Arsene Wenger is an inspiration to me in terms of management, I spent a year at Arsenal and despite criticism he rallies the team together and gets results.
REPORTER: You were reportedly offered the Inter Milan job, can you comment?
MARIO: I can't, it would be disrespectful to Walter Mazzari.
REPORTER: What is your tactical approach to the game.
MARIO: You'll have to wait and see.
REPORTER: What are your transfer plans?
MARIO: I've got some ideas, I want to bring in some Dutch players.
REPORTER: Anyone in particular?
MARIO: I can't say, they have to be top Klass.
REPORTER: Interesting, thank you and good luck Mario.
MARIO: Thank you.
