Welcome to the tale of Romeo Montague and Juliet Capulet, of the Montague and Capulet families, and the Hellas Verona and Chievo Verona football clubs. Welcome to a tale of love, of anguish, of bitter hatred and revenge. I, Feliks, will be guiding you through this journey as I recreate one of history's greatest stories into a modern and footballing context. Hop in and enjoy the show. First, however, here's some things to know.
1. I will be using images from Baz Luhrman's 1996 film Romeo and Juliet as the visual standard for the story. Leonardo DiCaprio will be my Romeo and Claira Danes will be my Juliet.
2. I will also use pieces of text from the movie and the play, but no single update will be completely comprised of Shakespearean text. Some of the Shakespearean text will also be adjusted to include modern and football terminology.
3. There won't be nearly as many deaths as there are in the play; after all, it takes less than a week for Romeo and Juliet to woo and then kill themselves. In this adaptation, I will be killing as few of the main characters as I can and the deaths you see in the play will be more 'metaphorical deaths'. You'll know what I mean in time.
4. I will try as I must to put as much football in as I possibly can, but fair warning to all, this is a story as much as it is a documentation of my Football Manager career. There will be a lot of storyline updates.
5. And finally, the story will be set in an alternate universe where the Hellas-Chievo rivalry is far more intense, one of the most intense in the world, and that the clubs are owned by the Montagues and Capulets. The logos and kits have also changed to reflect the colour of each of the houses.
But that's it really. Just enjoy what I hope will be a thrilling story!
