I´ve thought about this for the latest 2-3 football Manager games now. It seems the difference is huge between the two tournaments when it comes to income and even more so now when the bonus for the win-draw etc in the group table of Champions League is even higher.

I won Europa League my second season with Bordeaux but I think, I don´t know but I think I make an equal amount of money just by playing the six group stage matches in Champions League.

And is there a difference in ticket prices as well? I have no idea but maybe someone else does?
Difference in the tv deals? I think the difference is huge even there.

Would like to add a question to discuss.

How do you rate them against each other when it comes to honour/status?

Is a total win in Europa League worth as much as a quarterfinal place in Champions League or as a semifinal or other?

you make more money qualifying for the last 16 of the champions league, than if you win the europa league

there is such a huge difference, i think its more to generate money for the sponsors from TV rights than anything really! 1 game win in the Champions League is like 522 000 and a win in Europa is like 52k

what is the prize money for both competitions?

yes you do :) hahha, what a bunch of **** :P is it classed as a major trophy or a smaller trophy??

I heard players get 10k per goal aswell
But there is a huge disparity between the two competitions
Like the SPL and the EPL

Yeah I thought so also. It´s sick really, I mean it should be difference but in my opinion the difference is too big.
Just look at the history, many clubs that finsihed 3rd in their Champions League group gets knocked out in the later stages of the UEFA Cup. The difference between these teams can sometimes be 1 or 2points in thee national tables.

It´s classed as a minor or smaller trophy yes. Very strange in my opinion. I think the prize money for winning the Europa League was about 800 000Euros but I´m not 100% sure.

And if my memory isn´t failing me I think it´s about 2,2 million Euros in the Champions League.

Well at least then Liverpool won't get much if they win^^)
They'll probably get way more for finishing 6th

Yeah they probably will IF the FM crew´s(Sports Interactive) data of this is correct, you can´t be sure of that even if they usually are right about most things in the football world:).

Ok so there is a huge difference in bonus for winnings, in the tv-deals and for your final place in the tournaments.
But what I really want to know is if there´s anyone that had the time and will to actually summarize or count out the difference all-in-all?

My best guess is that it´s at least 20million euro more if you win Champions League compared to winning the Europa League.

Interesting, but definately NOT WHAT I WANTED TO HEAR, as for the second time in 3 seasons I have missed out of 4th place with Parma due to head to head, having lost to Fiorentina on both occasions.

Don't quote me on this but I think it's 20m if you qualify out of the group stages and 19m if you win the Europa League.

UEFA awards €3 million to each team that qualifies for the UEFA Champions League, plus €2.4 million for participating in the Group stage. A win in the campaign is worth €600,000 and a draw is worth €300,000.
In addition, UEFA pays each quarter finalist €2.5 million, €3 million for each semi-finalist, €4 million for the runners-up and €7 million for the winners.[4]
A large part of the distributed revenue from the UEFA Champions League is linked to the "market pool", the distribution of which is determined by the value of the television market in each country. For the 2008-09 season, both Manchester United and Bayern Munich, who reached the final and quarter-final respectively, earned more than Barcelona, who won the tournament.

plus at the end of the season in football manager, teams who reach further than the KO round or maybe the quarters are awarded like 21 + million in champions league tv revenue

Ok thanks for that. Interesting that there´s such a big difference between teams from different countries.
So I´m guessing that the biggest payoff comes when you play in Premier League then?

I'm presuming so, tbh in football manager, i dont tend to go massive teams which go far in the champions league, even though i have won it in the past, but in 10 i havent went past the 1/4s so i couldnt tell you about in game finance:\

To be honest, the Europa League in comparison with the Champions League is like comparing the FA Cup to the Premiership..

Not really aandy, teams like juventus and shakhtar are quality, and hamburg are a surprise

I was talking prize money wise..

Obviously I couldn't compare English domestic teams, with the best teams in Europe, that would be stupid..

i have to agree with joe, i mean just look at the teams left in the semis; liverpool, atletico madrid, hamburg and fulham:) all could compete in the champions league:P

Irony or your real opinion? In my opinion Champions League is of course much harder to win and history shows that the G14 clubs dominate the tournament but it is after all cup as well as the Europa League and anything can happen. So in my opinion winning the Europa League should give more payoff both in honour and money.
