Is full screen better for game performance than windowed?

Hey I have always thought full screen was better for your game speed than windowed, yet i see on here people claim windowed is better. I have no issues with fm09 thank god but my mates is slow, and he insists it runs better in windowed, whats the answer and why? :S

Well i just uded window mode so i can browse other things when its processing, i dont no if it runs faster or not.
