First of all, calm down. I dont mean top 10ish but top 30.

Okay he hasnt played brilliantly since his Liverpool move but when you look over his careers as a whole you notice his achievements.

9/8/97 - Made his professional debut for Wolves aged 17, scored 2 goals against Norwich City.
March '98 - Made his international debut aged 17.
Summer '98 - Helped RIO win UEFA under 18 European championship.
October '98 - Scored his 1st international goal aged 18.
Summer '99 - Sold to Coventry City for a then British record for a teenager (£6mil) Scored 2 goals on his debut.
Summer '00 - Moved to Inter for £13mil (Interestingly Coventry got relegated after 34 seasons in the top flight after his departure.) Didnt get a chance at Inter as the manager that brought him in (Marcelo Lippi) got fired.
Jan '01 - loaned to leeds.
Summer '01 - loan to leeds made permanent for £12mil
Summer '02 - Part of Mick McCarthey's World Cup squad. Scored 3 goals in 4 games (2 very critical goals) including one against finalists Germany, who only conceded two more in the entire tournament. (both by the Legend that is Ronaldo in the final)
Summer '02 - Bought by Spurs for £9mil, earned a peno for them on his debut in a narrow 3-2 win over London rivals West Ham.
2005 - Made Spurs vice captain to Ledley King.
26/12/07 - Became the 13th player to score more than 100 PL goals.
19/1/08 - Became the 15th ever player to score 100 competitive goals for Spurs.
28/7/08 - Signed for Liverpool for £19mil. Scored 5 in 19 for Liverpool (many as a sub)
2/2/09 - Returned to Spurs for £12mil a giving back the vice captaincy.
1/2/10 - Loaned out to Celtic and scored 12 in 16. Voted fans player of the year despite only playing half a season.
11/8/10 - Won his 100th ROI cap
30/1/11 - Loaned out to West Ham, limited playing time due to injures and scored a poor total of 2 goals which couldnt prevent them being relegated.

Facts:

Over £75mil has been spent by clubs to acquire his services.
He has 108 caps for ROI
Irelands record goalscorer with 51 goals.
Spurs 9th top scorer ever.
The tenth highest scorer ever in the Premiership.
Tied 29th most international goals ever.
Tied 10th most international goals for a European ever.
He has the 3rd most international goals for active international footballers.

Answer to the question, No.

Sure he is Irish Legend though. 52 goals isn't it for National team.. Excellent record..

I think he has been a great striker throughout his career. The fact that he has so many caps for ROI, despite them not qualifying for any Euros and only 1 world cup in Keane's career I find quite impressive.

No...No...and No.

He was a fantastic player pre-liverpool alongside Berbatov and if he had stayed then maybe he could have but he threw his career away.

He's alright. Nothing special.

No, I don't think he is. I certainly respect him for being an excellent striker in his ability to finish, but he isn't in my opinion.

I may have been to harsh with my vote, but he's defo not a top striker. Not saying he's bad but... just not that good.

He was fantastic before his move to Liverpool. Like Torres was good a few years ago.

Nah, not top 30 ever. Maybe just in the top 30 players (at their peak) who still play currently though.

he has had a great career but no not top 30ish for me

He's alright, but he was never truly world-class.

No.

Also, what are the chances the guy who created the thread is, Irish?

He's not even close to being in the top 30 strikers ever, but his international goalscoring record is phenominal, especially given the country he plays for. To do it in europe rather than players like Ali Daei & Stern John makes the record all the more impressive, but I don't think he has the ability to be considered as a world class striker. You have to also consider that there are many more international games nowadays than many years ago, and I'd consider players like John Charles (38 games, 15 goals) to be far better than Keane. He was a quality forward at his peak though

I thought you might be.

So, Irish & Biased? How's that working out for you..

Oh please, he was only asking a question to spark some discussion.

Keane was a great player, but nowadays he doesn't really get much opportunity. International record speaks for itself though I guess.

Definitely not one of the greatest strikers ever - bit overrated if you look at the transfer fee he's commanded over the years - but still a good striker who can pop up with an important goal now and then.
