I am now in 21/22 season and Mr Luka Modric refuses to retire and is causing team unrest. He is 36 years old and wants a contract with his role being a key player and still on 85k a week. Now I have had Luka since 09/10 season and he is a great player and I want him to finish his career at utd and become a coach but he is making it difficult, and it looks like I am having no other option but to try and sell him.

In contrast Rooney (35) and Valencia (37) are happy to sit there as backups on less than 30k a week, which I don’t mind and I let them play vs. weaker sides.

you couuld try and give him apperance fees so he dosnt get a high wage when he dosnt play, but it is unlikely he will accept this :S

let him become a Free Agent and then sign him?

if you wait until he is two-three months away from his contract running out, his wages demands will go down this happened with me when i was trying to sign marquez when his contract was running out. i manger to get if down by about 40-50 grand

If you release a player they usualy wont rejoin the club striaght away again.maybe wait until he has a month or two left and offer him a contract then.
Dont think its possible to make a player retire...

find a secluded farm and build a rake and slowly strech him till he submits :)

From my experience, if you dont offer some player a new contract when they are old, they will automatically choose to retire. My Riquelme did that at 34. He stated that he did not want to play at a lower league and want to retire when he is on top of his game

I had a save on FM 2006 as England manager and James Beattie was unhappy about never playing so I told him he would never play while I was in charge of England. He quickly announced his retirement from international football. Maybe try making Modric not needed at the club and if he asks to play first team football say he's not in your plans.

If you don't play him he usually retires, i didn't play Nesta in my AC Milan save and he retired due to not playing.

yh not playing them they retire coz i had cannavaro in reserves all year and gago playing like 4 games and they both retired

if you've not done anything about it yet mate then try offering him a short term contract with a clause in it that says when it expires he gets a coaching role.

make sure you keep suggesting to him that he should be a coach as he might start to agree and decide to retire and go into coaching for you.
