This spring I'll be joining the non competitive local league. No hard tackles and friendly atmosphere (I haven't played competitively).

I've got 2 coworkers from Sierra Leon and Liberia who played for my local university who had international opportunities who play in the competitive league who are encouraging me to play (who play in the top competitive laegue)

What can I do to prepare myself and get in shape (i can jog a mile atm). I don't have good technical ability but I read the field well and communicate well (was a great wide receiver in American football, maybe trying goalkeeper would be a good idea?)

Being defensive-minded might be a good idea. My tekkers are *****, but I read the game reasonably well and can prawn a guy if I have to, so I try to stay back.

Hey, if you're quick, just think of yourself as a kind of Sunday League Marvell Wynne. ;)

Exacly what i do, im quite well lets say plump lad myself but like to play either a defensive role in midfield or upfront in a "Heskey" type role lol. And because of my size people don't expect me to be able to play but i can turn players quite well and i play a killer through ball, almost McEachran like lol.

thats actually how I got into running shape last year.

Warm up walk, then run some and walk some, until I was doing 1-2 miles without walking.
