Gonna keep it short, and here is it

It was a farce that would lead to a goalkeeper given a red card, a team red with anger... and the Dutch FA red-faced after reversing the ref's decision.

The trouble began when a drunk hooligan ran on to the field to attack AZ Alkmaar's No.1 during the first half of their Cup match with former European champions Ajax at the Amsterdam Arena last night.
To everyone's surprise, Costa Rican goalie Esteban Alvarado then launched a kung fu kick at the teenage thug, sending him crashing to the floor - and landed a few more kicks before security guards dragged the invader away.
And when referee Bas Nijhuis red-carded the goalkeeper, Alkmaar coach Gertjan Verbeek ordered his side to walk off in protest.
Now, however, the red card has been rescinded by the Dutch FA (KNVB).

Later the stewards come down to stop the attack, and AZ players Surround the ref.

A red for Esteban. This reminds me of how Cantona kicked the fan in his ManU days

AZ refuses to play,

And so the match got Abandoned

So the match is said to be re-played, but in closed doors. The only attendants, Kids.

So what are your though/opinions/etc. on this incident.

Wow, we need the option to walk off the pitch on FM13!

but anyway, I saw the GK do nothing malicious. The fan tried to kick him, GK parried. Then GK kept the guy down.

I applaud AZ's manager.

im coy on the red card. i mean yeah kinda looks similar to what Cantona did, but still. oO)

so i bet the kids are gonna have fun watching a rivalry game. ;)

technically the ref HAS to send him off. the letter of the law says something along the lines of showing violent conduct, whether it be another player, a player on your own team, a spectator, a steward - who it is towards is not stipulated, just "violent conduct". he has to treat this incident the same way as if he did that to another player.

the ref really did nothing wrong. the GK should know the laws of the game and shouldnt have retaliated.

this is old anyway.

yea, he shouldn't have protected himself...

It's not like he went into the stands and beat some old lady.

This incident reminds me of that AC Milan game couple years back where the fan came onto the pitch and attacked Dida and he tried to attack back but failed and then just went to the ground as though he had been shot lol.

Where were the stewards?

Fapping (6). lol jk

back on topic.
looking at the vid, the hooligan escaped easily and quickly. and yes the security wasn't tight that time.

But basically, when I see a player doing that sort of thing......no. just no. I understand at every club you'll get some total knobcheese who does something completely stupid, and ridiculous. It's simply not worth jeapordising you're career over-especially with the way the media is these days. It's a really really tough one. I mean, he could get put in jail for assault because of a drunken lout. I genuinally don't know, it's such an if's and but's situation...............

(btw i'm not in support of the hooligan douchebag-his kind make me sick)

That match wasn't yesterday. Yesterday, Ajax was in Brazil and lost 1-0 against Palmeiras =)

Anyway, the keeper was right to defend himself, but kicking the guy already on the ground? Not so sure.

He wasn't kicking him in the face, and I wouldn't let that guy back up either.

I think the "don't let the guy back up" is for MMA and street fights. He could just drop the guy and let the stewards around take care of him.

Stewards missed him the first time. During the moment I doubt you would be cognizant of how close the stewards are. Last thing you want is this guy getting back up and running at and hitting another player or manager.

Don't understand why people are comparing it to Cantona. Esteban was attacked on the pith by a fan and simply defended himself. Cantona jumped into the crowd towards someone's face with his studs.

Any idea what the punishment was the guy got?

I find it hilarious out of all people on the pitch he would choose to attack a goalie, who usually is the biggest dude in the team, has reflexes of a spiderman, and has to be enough of a nutter to catch balls flying at 100mph all day.
