First off these are situations when ive missed the advice to offer them larger contract if there are rumours there looking to leave. Although twice its happened with no warning due to an enquiry from a bigger team

my best player whanted to leave, he only played half a season and had 2 and a half seasons left on his contract so i refused.
He sat unhappy, played **** and i eventually had to sell him .
This has happened a few times. It seems once youve missed the chance to offer contract there is no going back.
I get good money and can buy good replacements, but i feel this means my squad is never going to improve.

Is there anything i can try

Thanks in Advance

I think a lot of us struggle with this. :S

There isn't much you can do but sell him for as high price as possible.

i had problems with this in my Greece save. I had a young wonderkid RB and a near wonderkid LB both playing at same time and had about 10 different managers on favorites list from being praised so much.

I learned a few tips:

1. Never respond to transfer rumors, NEVER.
2. Never respond to enquiries
3. If you are serious about keeping a player, offer him new contracts periodically to match his ability.
4. Keep playing the player and demand performances from him. If he is so ambitious, he will have to prove it on the pitch. Eventually his morale and form will come back.
5. You can keep hold of a player on contract for years this way even if he wants to leave. However if he starts hurting the team's morale, you should sell, or if his price tag is right and his contract is within the last year or two, sell!

I know it practically sucks when ur managing a a club like Leeds and Barcelona come calling for ur best player....I groomed Verratti into a world-beater but when AC Milan enquired he wanted to leave straight away

this happening with my peterborough save in my 2nd season after saying they wanted to move to a bigger club however i finished 9th in the league and now in my 2nd season after around 10 games im 2nd and now they don't want to leave the club

Ignore the **** out of them until they beg for your forgiveness.

I say No, and keep playing them, if they dont get over it,they get frozen out and never sold ,until they say sorry.

If you've been winning trophies and are listed as their prefferred personnel - it shouldn't be too hard. I tell them that I want the club to match their ambition and want to hang on to the better players to get there. I haven't had one continue to pout. I've won the premiership, Euro Cup and League cup with Worksop and AC Milan, Arsenal and Man U are low balling with the offers for my youngsters who were castoffs from other premiership sides who are on low wages.

As soon as I get a new guy that's awesome I make it a point to try to get them to list me as their prefferred pesonnel. It makes these kind of things easier to deal with IMO.

And If I recall correctly there's 2 stages to this there's the "slight concern" and "unhappy" stage Best to deal with it at the "slight concern" stage. Being critical and not playing them IMO makes them unhappier and makes them want to leave even more. (that's my theory anyway)

I just don't play them until they buck up their ideas and if they try to miss training then I fine them 2 weeks wages and it usually works and they apologize in the end but if they have less than a year left on their contract then I sell them ASAP. Upson tried it with me at West Ham but I didn't give in and now his average rating is 7.44. :)

What you do is set the value/asking price to 99m. That way nobody will come and ask for him. Truse me, i've done it plenty of time ;-)

I agree with Walrus and Billy.

Especially if they are crucial to my set up.

I just keep playing them, and sooner or later the unhappy symbol vanishes, if not i offer em a contract to smooth them over.

Iv never sold anyone after they have had a paddy.
and when they say they want to leave for a bigger club, i say to stay so the club can match their ambitions.
i guess i get a good response because i don't sign egotistical players that much and always sign team based players.

How is that cheating. It means I value the player at 99m and the team has to pay 99m and above. If it was cheating then FM would not put the part into it.

It's like Arsenal valuing Fabregas for more than 30m and Barcelona don't want to pay that much so they can't sign him, same applies above.

I agree it's obviosly not cheating to put the asking price super high so teams don't bid. I think you confused Sismael by saying 'valuation/asking price'. They may have thought that u edit the valuation value with FMRTE so teams don't bid

I don't use FMRTE. I'm a fair person and personally i think there is no point in playing the game if you do that.

What i mean by Valuation/asking price is when you want to transfer list the player - on that screen you set the price higher.

Ye I agree with you sayam I was just explaining why I thought sismael called you a cheat

How is that cheating XD

No sense at all.. Set transfer status and put a heavy price tag on him.

thanks for the responses people.....Im gonna go hardline with them but play them and expect performances.

see how it goes

Thanks

At times I found it works when I offer him for transfer, but for about 3-4 times his actual value.
In no time, his unhappiness should shift from "wanting to leave" to "unhappy at being transfer listed".

Then you take him off the list, and he should be fine.

When you got a guy that isn't quite great yet, but you know is going to be world-class in a few years, you can try to loan him out for a nice fee until your club has enough stature for him to stay.
Had a few players in various saves that I knew were going to be great, and I managed to loan them out to teams one or two divisions above me, and during the loan spell, they are save from over-zealous chairmen to accept any offers.

Another thing I managed to do (although by accident) was having a "wanting to leave" player getting injured in pre-season, and all the way through the transfer window, and I managed to tie him down with a nice new contract while he was sidelined.

In any case, oftentimes, it works itself out, but as soon as the player starts to be absent from training, it's pretty much over and you will have to sell (not always, but more often than not).

Resolve issue

I have had this option with Otamendi on 10.3 patch. It gives you 4 options. I chose tell him that I want Everton to match his ambitions and he withdrew his transfer request. Laughin.
