What are the key components for attacking and defensive tactics? i.e. which team instructions to use etc

Yes this is David Moyes, i have no idea what the **** i am doing

ffs david.

Depends on your formations, but personally I go for..

Attacking - Fluid. Control. hassle opponents, push higher up, play offside, higher tempo, shorter passing, play out of defence, work ball into box, exploit the flanks, be more expressive, play wider.

Defensive - Balanced. Counter. drop deeper, higher tempo, more disciplined, run at defence. Stuff like that. 4-1-2-2-1 formation. Powerful, quick players with good work rate work better for this.

Yours,
Sir Alex.

Personally I generally go for something in between, so here's what I've got and works well attacking and defensively.

Attack: fluid, attacking, play offside, higher tempo, more direct passing, run at defense, play out of defense(ignore if you have Shawcross esque centre backs), more disciplined, adventurous formation(4-2-3-1, 3-4-1-2, 3-4-3, 4-3-3, 4-4-2 diamond)

Defense: fluid, counter/attacking/defensive, cautious formations(4-2-2-2, 4-5-1, 4-4-1-1, 4-1-4-1, 3-5-2, 4-4-2) play offside, higher tempo, more direct passing, run at defense, drop deeper, play narrower(or use a narrow formation), more disciplined, clear ball to flanks(ignore if narrow formation), strikers man mark midfielders

David and I are having the same problem, we both want Man U to play 4-4-2, it doesn't seem to work too well though.
