Dont know if you want to add this but its a football shirt designer for those people who dont have photoshop. Its from one of the EA forums and its a program that takes alot of hard work out of designing the kits.

I'm new to this kit making, wanted to give it a little try, not too good using photoshop in the past and i'm using SSD just now which i find easy to use.. question though, Can you get extra templates for SSD or just the ones available on the programme ?

I'm not sure, but if you really want to do kit making, you have to use Photoshop. Gimp/SSD just isn't good enough IMO.

The quality difference of the kits that can be produced by Photoshop vs Gimp/SSD is quite large.

Not specifically for kit making as far as I know. But if you know your way around Photoshop you will be able to make decent kits. So you could just do tutorials to make other things that will indirectly help you with kit making.
