Tabarez may have managed Uruguay for the last time, retiring due to health problems

MONTEVIDEO, URUGUAY - 64 year old Oscar Tabarez has announced that he is retired as of today after he was diagnosed with diabetes and felt he should leave his post to take care of his health and family.

The Montevideo-born man, who managed Uruguay twice - once from 1988 to 1990 and now from 2006 to 2010 - will be relieved of his duties. Doctors from a hospital said his condition wasn't severe but Tabarez wanted to retire and take care of his health.

In his 30 years of management, spanning from 1980 to 2010, he has managed 13 clubs, the Uruguay Under-20 team and the Uruguay senior team (twice). The Uruguay FA said: "His announcement came as a surprise to the board and we wish him all the best for the future."

His best achievement was a fourth placed finish in this year's World Cup finals in South Africa.

The odds for a new manager has been released, with former Inter boss Rafa Benitez the front runner, although the FA said that they wanted a local man.
Odds:
Rafael Benitez 2/1
Marcello Lippi 5/1
Roberto di Matteo 10/1
