Royal Emirates Group, the investment arm of the Dubai royal family, has bought an as yet unnamed La Liga club and is set to rebrand the team and invest heavily.

Early reports indicated that the club in question was Real Zaragoza and suggested that the cash-strapped outfit would be renamed 'Team Dubai'.

But a spokesperson for Royal Emirates Group, owned by Sheikh Butti Bin Suhail Al Maktoum, confirmed to ESPNsoccernet that Zaragoza are not the club in question and that the club that has been bought will not be completely renamed.

The spokesperson said: "It is a Spanish La Liga division side. The team will not be renamed but it will be titled as '[club's name] Team Dubai' in order to deliver the message that Dubai care."

The team's identity will be revealed at a press conference on Thursday but ESPNsoccernet understands that the club in question are a mid-table, debt-free Primera Division side who have enjoyed some domestic success in recent seasons and have participated in European compeition.

The club's chairman and several high-profile players are due to arrive in Dubai on Wednesday.

Hope this wont happen. Rumor is that the Club is Getafe.. Hope La Liga wont allow this.

And also one more rumor is that they will change only the sponsors and stadium name not the club name..

The fans would go mental im sure. Shocking idea and a shocking name for a club that plays in Spain.

To show that 'Dubai care'? Care about what? :S

Imagine how much press this would get if it was a Premier League club.

This should be one of the most deluded statement ever. How can someone change the Club name and say they care, how can local supporters take this..

Mid Table and debt free with recent success. I'm thinking Sevilla. Getafe are in a relegation fight and in 14th, so not sure if that really counts as mid table. It's a terrible idea renaming the team though, the fans would go insane. The Spanish are a bit rowdy from what I've heard and they let their feelings be known. This should go well :)

Another toy for rich people to play with and stuff the fans. Hope this doesn't go through either. If they cared, they'd leave the club alone and not upset the fans.

It's Getafe it has just said on Sky Sports. There fans won't be happy, and I wouldn't be. It was like when Mike Ashley tried to change the name of St. James' Park.

This should be fun. I'm sure the fans wouldn't mind the money thrown at the club but having their name changed? I think World War 3 will have to start without North Korea then :)

Ick.

Meh, if Billionnaire arabs pumped millions into my club and new players started arriving on a regular basis, they could rename the club Dancing Chickens & Gypsy Thieves FC for all i would care.

if they kept the Getafe bit as the badge shows i wouldnt be to dissappointed as one of their fans

If some random sheik changed my clubs name I swear I'd travel to the ******* emirates and **** on his doorstep. I'd get shot but I'd die a martyr. A **** martyr.

haha....this is what I've been thinking. Especially in La Liga which is so stratified and completely locked down by the top teams. Who really cares what the team is called if they're made competitive?
