Carter Announces New Manager: Carine Has Been Chosen To Drive Leeds Foward

Leeds.png

Leeds United have today confirmed their new manager. J.C. Livesey has been chosen by Chairman, Daniel Carter to drive the team foward. Carter opened applications on Thursday and have now finally made a final decision. A total number of 6 people applied for the pending position, with many people pleasing Carter with the quality, however Carter is pleased with the new appointment.

Carter caught up with Sky Sports upon the new arrival --

I am finally pleased to get my man. We had a long task of getting applications in and weighing up our best candidate. We have finally hired JC as our man to take Leeds forward and we believe he's the right person to do so. We have sat down and discussed the transfer budget and talked out possible transfer targets, and we are both on the same wavelength. I will look forward to working with JC in the new season and hopefully he can bring the success we are all striving for here at Leeds. I would also like to thank everyone who applied for the pending position and wish you all the very best of luck for the future, but once again congratulations to JC on his appointment..

Notice: Myself And Carine willl now be using the account "LeedsUnitedStory" to post updates.

Press Conference From Elland Road: Carine Appointed Manager

2309742807_9dae52cacf.jpg

We are all present here at Elland Road, the home of Leeds United FC to welcome Mr J.C Livesey to the club. Mr Livesey will now be willing to take any questions you may have.

Welcome to the club Mr Livesey, how do you feel to finally be appointed as the gaffer?

"It's a great achievement for me to be appointed at such a big club, the fans are absolutely brilliant here and I can't wait to start work. The main reason I accepted the job was because the teams morale and spirit is sky high and they all want to succeed and, of course, I want to take this club back to where they belong and that's the Premier League!"

Do you have any plans for your back room staff?

"I think it's only fair to say for now "All of your jobs are safe" because I haven't had time to take a look at the current back room staff and ***** how they work. I would however like to say I have a few possible targets to bring in from my ex-club as we have a great working relationship."

And finally, do you have any transfer targets?

We have a few ideas on which areas we need to make stronger and which players to bring in. We have a fair transfer budget and we will look to spend as little as possible, but bring in some quality players.
End Of Press Conference

Managers View: Pre-Season Latest Updates

0,,10273~6328655,00.jpg

Manager’s Diary.

Cardiff City 3 Leeds United 4.

I watched from the stands as my new charges took on Championship outfit Cardiff City in a pre-season friendly. It was a highly entertaining match, though I watched from the stands due to my earlier press-conference commitments.
Goals from Luciano Becchio (11, 30) and Jermaine Beckford (38) fired us into a commanding 3-0 lead at half-time. Kelvin Etuhu (63) pulled one back for the hosts, before David Prutton (83) restored our 3 goal advantage. Any thoughts of an easy ride in the last few minutes when Kelvin Etuhu (90) and Nathaniel Jarvis (90) fired in two late consolation efforts.
All in all, it was a good display of attacking football -- though I will need to hammer home the need for total concentration, no matter the score, if we are to do well in the coming season. If it weren’t for a Michael Chopra missed penalty (8), the result could have been a lot worse.
Luciano Becchio claimed the Man of the Match award.

###

Manager’s Diary -- The Morning After.

I arrived at Thorp Arch -- the club’s training ground -- bright and early and met with Glynn and the rest of the backroom staff.
“Let’s make this a good season,” I encouraged.
Everyone seems enthusiastic and up for the challenge ahead. They appear a good bunch of lads and the knowledge they’ve amassed in their specialised areas will be a huge bonus to me (and the club) as the season progresses.
Glynn has organised a training match against the reserves -- it will give me a good opportunity to cast my eye over the talent available. I don’t know many of the players available as yet, so I’ve entrusted Glynn to select and set-up the two teams.
I met the players and wished them luck for the upcoming game, “Show me what you can do lads. There’s a big season ahead of us -- I want to see who’s up for the challenge.”
The players responded well -- there seems to be a good atmosphere between them.

###

Leeds United 1 Leeds United Reserves 0.

The game went well, despite fielding a weakened line-up. I learnt a lot about the current players (their qualities, their weaknesses) during a well-fought 90 minutes. There’s still many questions to be answered, but I’m satisfied for now -- especially with the overall attitudes of everyone I‘ve met today.
After training, I sat down with Glynn and went through our pre-season schedule. For now, whilst I get my feet under the table and assess the players, training will be handled (in the main) by Glynn and the other coaches. I’ll take a more ‘hands on approach’ once I’ve formulated my plans for the upcoming season.

###

Our pre-season fixture list was confirmed this morning --

Bristol City, Farsley, Guiseley, Chelsea Reserves H) and Hearts. There’s some great fixtures in there for us -- some good testers for the coming season, and I hope the players will give a good account of themselves.

###

Sky Sports News Report --

Leeds United 2 Bristol City 2.

8,208 fans turned up to see a strong Leeds team took the field against Championship outfit. The host’s put in a very good performance -- withstanding heavy pressure at times, but looking good on the break. Beckford fired the home team into the lead with a well taken finish (33), before Nicky Maynard (37) forced in an equaliser. The second-half played out in similar fashion -- Leeds breaking the deadlock through Tresor Kandol (86), before a lapse in concentration allowed Danny Haynes to earn the visitors a credible draw (90).

Livesey commented…

I think the game went well. Sure, we were sloppy in the final minutes and conceded, but we can work on that. I’m pleased with lads effort and delighted they managed a draw against Championship opposition

Leeds United have confirmed all of their summer transfers for the coming season. Manager Livesey has today confirmed 8 new signings. Manchester City's Benjani has signed a 3 year deal at Elland Road while Barnsley's Bogdanovic drops down from the championship to join Leeds. The signings have been quite promising from Livesey and it shows that he wants to move Leeds into the right direction.

Livesey also brought in 2 youngsters on loan in Wiess and Fleck.

Livesey also brought in Fleck, Weiss and Goalkeeer Lewis

Leeds United have also brought in Wiss from Manchester City for a season long loan, while John Fleck signs a 3 month loan. Leeds United needed back up for the goalkeeper position and have brought in Peterborough's Joe Lewis. Livesey has spent a total of 4.4M after being given a total of 12M to spend.

Pre Season Updates: Remaining Leeds Friendlies

Manager’s Diary --

Glynn took the fringe players to play two games this week against non-league opposition.
Both games were away from home and, by all accounts, the players played well under constant pressure. We we’re expected to win easily, but both teams put up a decent fight.

Farsley 1 Leeds United 3 --

Tom Elliott (7), Robbie Ashman (og 30), and Andy Hughes scored for the visitors, whilst Josh Till (71) delighted in scoring a well-earned consolation.

Guiseley 0 Leeds United 3 --

Vladimir Weiss (24), Enoch Showunmi (29) and new signing Benjamin (34) sealed the win for Leeds. One smudge on the teams performance was Bradley Johnson’s sending off after 73 minutes.

###

Sky Sports News Report --
Leeds United 1 Chelsea Reserves 0.

Leeds raised a few today eyebrows today when the defeated a Chelsea Reserves side including French international Florent Malouda and Daniel Sturridge. Jermaine Beckford scored the only goal of the game after 28 minutes as the Yorkshire club continued their impressive pre-season campaign.

Livesey Commented…

"Another good performance from the lads today. I was glad to see us remain calm under pressure -- something we have failed to do in the latter stages of previous games -- and the build up to Jermaine’s goal was particularly pleasing."
Sky Sports News Report --
Leeds United 2 Hearts 1.

A fabulous team performance (filled with grit and style) paved the way for an unexpected victory. Hearts (of the Scottish Premier Division) fielded a full-strength side and started well -- taking the lead through Jose Goncalves after only 15. Leeds steadied themselves and slowly gained a foothold in the game. Lucciano Becchio equalised on 29 minutes, before a fine strike from Leigh Brumby (59) sealed the win.
Livesey Commented…
"I think we gave Hearts too much respect in the opening stages of the game. There a good side, but we stood off and made it easy for them to attack us. I think the opening woke us up to be honest, and we finally began to play the way I know we can. The win was the cherry on top of a fine performance. I just hope we’re as competitive when the real fixtures come along.
Livesey also commented that he was pleased with the performances of all his new signings during the pre-season fixtures of late."

Promotional Odds For Up-Coming Season

According to bookmakers, we have been made 5-4 favourites for promotion. It’s good to see others rate our chances too -- I just hope it doesn’t put too much pressure on the lads.

August Update...

Breaking News...

Leeds United have announced the signing of Scotsman Steven Smith. Smith, a promising left-back, joins from Glasgow Rangers in a deal believed to be worth £200,000. Manager J.C. Livesey is said to be delighted at winning the race for the player’s signature.

Coca-Cola League One.

Leeds United 4 Exeter 1.

Leeds carried their fine pre-season form into the opening fixture of the new season -- demolishing a distinctly average Exeter side 4-1 in front of 24,983 spectators. Jermaine Beckford opened his account for the year with a freak goal after 3 minutes. Benjani double the advantage with a powerful header, before Luciano Becchio scored a well-placed shot on 24 minutes. Beckford killed the game off on the stroke of half-time -- a finely struck penalty sending the league favourites into a 4-0 lead at the break. The second-half was a rather more subdued affair -- Leeds took their foot of the pedal -- and Exeter finally managed to get a consolation goal in the dying seconds through Marcus Stewart.

Leeds gave debuts to Joe Lewis, Mark Wilson, Steven Smith, Benjani, John Fleck and Daniel Bogdanovic.

Two goal hero Jermaine Beckford deservedly picked up the Man of the Match Award.

Livesey Commented…
It was a good start to the new season. The lads played well and stuck to the formation and tactics throughout. I‘m very pleased to have started with such an emphatic victory and hope that it signifies the beginning of a successful campaign.

***

Carling Cup First Round.

Leeds United 3 Carlisle United 0.

Leeds played hosts to their divisional counterparts Carlisle in an entertaining and full-blooded cup encounter. 28,156 turned up at Elland Road expecting to see a good flowing match -- they weren’t to be disappointed. Daniel Bogdanovic (16) and Jermaine Beckford (45, 75) scored the all important goals to send Leeds through to the next round.

Livesey Commented…
It was a good solid performance today. I’m happy for the team and, in particular, for Jermaine. I was pleased to see him fire home his 50th goal for Leeds. The fans love him here and he deserved his goals today.

Unsurprisngly, Beckford‘s performance earned him the Man of the Match Award.

***

Coca-Cola League One.

Wycombe 1 Leeds United 1.

Despite a heavy defeat in their previous league fixture, Wycombe proved today that they don’t intend challenging for this season’s Wooden Spoon Award. A fine, all-action performance saw them dig out a precious and well deserved point against their illustrious opponents. New signing Daniel Bogdanovic gave the hosts an early lead -- popping up in the box to slot home after only 10 minutes. Jon-Paul Pittman was rewarded when he found himself open in the box on 49 minutes -- coolly slotting the ball past the stranded Joe Lewis.

Livesey Commented…
Wycombe put in a battling performance today and it was hard to break them down. Once Daniel scored, I thought we’d be too strong for them, but, credit where it’s due, Wycombe deserved their point today.

Competition News -- Carling Cup.

Leeds have drawn Championship outfit Watford in the second round of the Carling Cup. The game will be played at Elland Road on Wednesday, 26th of August.

Breaking News...

Danish giant’s Brondby have swooped to sign experienced goalkeeper Casper Ankergren from Leeds United. The fee involved is believed to be no more than £10,000. Ankergren is said to be happy at the move back to his homeland after falling down the pecking order at the Yorkshire club since the arrival of Joe Lewis from Peterborough.

Left-back Alan Sheehan also left Leeds today -- moving to Bradford City on loan until the end of the season.

***

Competition News -- Carling Cup.

Leeds have been drawn against Darlington in the first round of the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy North. The game will be played at Elland Road on Tuesday, 1st September.

***

Coca-Cola League One.

Walsall 1 Leeds United 4.

An efficient performance by the visitors saw them confidently overcome a lacklustre Walsall. The highlight of the game was undoubtedly a superb hat-trick from Leeds’ front-man Jermaine Beckford (24, 26 & 29 pen.) Midfielder Michael Doyle added to the lead with a placed shot on 66 minutes, before Walsall youngster Richard Taundry scored a consolation goal with a close range header.

Once again, Beckford went home with the Man of the Match Award.

Livesey Commented...
This was a decent performance from the team as a whole. Jermaine was brilliant again, but we mustn’t forget the overall contributions of everyone involved. I’m very happy with the squad and the atmosphere here.

***

Coca-Cola League One.

Leeds United 1 Tranmere Rovers 0.

The home team showed their superiority in a 1-0 victory, but they could (and should) have scored more. Veteran centr-back Ian Goodison almost gifted Leeds a goal on 3 minutes, but managed to redeem himself by making a great last-ditch tackle. Tranmere dug their heals in and, when Michael Doyle received a red card for persistent fouling on 75 minutes, they must have fancied their chances of taking all three points. Sadly, they couldn’t rise to the challenge as Leeds delighted most of the 25,362 fans with a winning goal -- experienced striker Benjani came off the bench to score a header on 79 minutes.

Benjani was also awarded the Man of the Match Award.

Livesey Commented…
We struggled today, but I’m happy with the 3 points. We had to work hard throughout the match, especially once Michael got himself sent-off.

There was more good news for Leeds today, when Doyle and Beckford found themselves included in the League One Team of the Week.

***

Carling Cup Second Round.

Leeds United 1 Watford 0.

Leeds progressed to the third round draw of the Carling Cup after a hard-earned victory over Championship outfit Watford. 28,399 turned up at Elland Road to watch an evenly matched encounter. Chances came and went for both sides and the game looked as if it were heading to extra-time until referee Mr. Stroud awarded the hosts a penalty on 83 minutes. Becchio stepped up confidently, but saw his shot saved by Scott Loach.

Extra Time…
Bogdanovic finally broke the duck after 113 hard-fought minutes and sent the Elland Road faithful into raptures. Watford were gutted -- their players flat-out, and they failed to recover. Leeds held out for a well-deserved win.

Livesey Commented…
Phew… that was a tough one. The players gave their all and I won’t be surprised if we’ve a few sore legs at training tomorrow. It was a fantastic victory. I’m delighted for them.

***

Coca-Cola League One.

Colchester United 2 Leeds United 1.

Leeds United’s players and fans came away highly disappointed from their 2-1 defeat at the hands of Colchester.
Benjani fired the visitor’s ahead in the 21st minute -- during a spell of high pressure and slick football from the Yorkshire outfit.
Clive Platt equalised in the 72nd minute when his close range header flew past Joe Lewis. Colchester went from strength to strength and claimed the winning goal when Kevin Lisbie’s 78th minute header nestled in the back of the Leeds goal.

Livesey Commented…
I was disappointed at the end of this match. The team played well and deserved at least a draw. Colchester’s a hard place to get a result of late and it proved to be the same today.

***

Competition News -- Carling Cup.

Leeds will pit their wits against Championship outfit Sheffield United in the third round of the Carling Cup. The game will be played at Elland Road on Wednesday, 23rd September.

Patrick will fly out to join up with his Australian team-mates at the start of the upcoming month, whilst Alan Martin has been called up to the Scotland under 21s.

***

Breaking News...

Leeds United have confirmed one last signing before the end of the transfer window. Manchester United’s Corry Evans, already a full international squad member for Northern Island, is said to be delighted at joining the club on loan until the end of the season.

Livesey commented…
I’m delighted with the loan signing of Corry. He is young and talented, and will provide me with strong defensive options in midfield.

Manager’s thoughts…
