August 8th 2009
today was the day that the new league season started, and my first game as Leeds Utd manager, i jus couldn't wait. i arrived at Elland Road buzzing at the feeling of leeding my Leeds Utd side out to face Exeter City in less than 2 hours time. I told the players i wanted to have a meeting with them at 2.10-2.45 then they will train on the pitch for the 15 minutes. In the meeting i will dicuss what i want off them this season and the standard they have to set. I also told them i wanted them to hit the ground running if we were to win the league. And lastly the tactics for the game against Exeter which we would play a 4-4-2 with beckford and Camara up-front. It was now 2:55 pm i stood thre proud in front of my team as we were about to walk out to face an Exeter city side. This was the proudest moment of my life, i had a massive smile on my face and couldn't control my excitement, Patrick Kisnorbo captained the side captained the side.
My team lined up:

I couldn't have wished for a better start a 3-0 win against Exeter with Henri Camara scoring 2 on his debut, Robert Snodgrass got things up and running. A very good start to my managerial career

After a comfortable opener to the season with a 3-0 win against Exeter on August 8th. My Leeds Utd side took on League 2 side Darlington in the Carling Cup 1st Round, and i was looking for a repeat performance from my side. I made 5 changes to my side to players being tired but they still did the job:
leedsvsdarlingtonlineup.png

This was a great result for my lads as it was as some would say a weakened side.

I was pleased that my captain Patrick Kisnorbo who is a central defender scoring 2 !!, a down side was loanee Michael Doyle was sent off for 2 bookings, he's on loan from Coventry for the season.

You didn't like your job at Asda? But isn't...WORKING 9TO5 ITS A GREAT WAY TO MAKE A LIVING. Sorry I think you'll find I spontaneously find myself in song, good story by the way.

It's just a story so i just thought of any job and an excuse to get fired, and cheers for saying my story is good

My team and I had just got off the team bus for the game against Wycombe, this was my first away game of the season and Wycombe were bound to prove a sterner test than Exeter. I had changed my formation of 4-4-2 for home games and 4-3-1-2 for away games, so i used this new formation .This proved to be true as my side scraped a 1-0 win due to a Leigh Bromby goal on the 70 minute. I returned to what was pretty much my full strength side, as i gave Luchaino Beechio his first start of the season in place of Jemaine Beckford and i also handed Sandrinho his debut for Leeds.
wycombevsleedslineups.png
This is how the game layed out in which turned out to be a tight game, where my team had most of the possession we just couldn't put our chances away, i brought Beckford on for Beechio at half time and that seemed to be a lift to the whole team and Camara's game seemed to improve.

A good goal for central defender Leigh Bromby with a low drive following a short corner

Great, just great, something else to add to my awful day at my 9-5 job in Asda which resulted in me getting sacked because apparently throwing skittles and shouting "taste the rainbow" is not apprioate behaviour.

Just 3 days after the away game at Wycombe, another away game but this time at Walsall which could prove to be another tricky games as i see how 4-4-2 works for us away from home.Team News: I re-called Jermaine Beckford to the starting line-up,i handed Michael Doyle his league debut for Leeds in of Jonny Howson after serving a 11 match suspension and i also handed Alan Sheenan his first start of the season as left back.
walsallvsleedslineups.png

This is how things panned out at the Bescot Stadium. This was another tight game as i am struggling to find a formation that lets us score more goals away from home, but it will do for now after 3 wins out of 3 leaves us in 2nd place behind Colchester on goal difference. A late well taken goal from Camara (he is on fire) in the 81st minute with a real poachers goal.

MOM:
Patrick Kisnorbo

Another comforatble performance for Kisnorbo, as the defence is doing there job as they are yet to concede in the league this season.

After 2 tricky away games at Wycombe and Walsall which i feel my side did well in scraping a 1-0 win in both of those games, my Leeds Utd side still with a 100% record in the league took on a Tranmere side who lay 6th with 2 wins and 1 defeat. My team is back at Elland Road since the opening day win against Exeter, it is also the same ref. My team lined up:
leedsvstranmerelineups.png

I had made a few changes to my line-up as Beechio came in for Beckford and Bromby for the injured Campbell. I was very disappointed with this result as Tranmere are a side that we should be beating but just a 1-1 draw despite having most of the possession we just couldn't break through there defence.
leedsvstranmere.png

My MOM:
Henri Camara-He carried on his good form adding another goal to his tally a great signing so far

4 days after my team's disappointing 1-1 draw with Tranmere, we took on Championship side Doncaster in the Carling Cup 2nd round, as this tie was at Elland Road i feel we really have a good chance of causing an upset with a 1-0 win, this was intresting as we were favourites for this match. Team News: GK I.Walker, RB.L.Bromby, CB P.Kisnornbo, CB R.De Laet,LB A.Sheehan, RM A. Van Der Meyde, CM D.Johnson, CM M.Doyle LM R.Snodgrass, STR H.Camara,,STR J.Beckford. Sol Campbell is a key player who is absent due to a damaged elbow.I was really optmistic about this match.

leedsvsdoncasterlineups.png

There were postives and negativesto this match, postivies were going 4-0 up but then they got back to 4-3 and Jancker scoring what turned out to be the winning goal to make it 5-3 but they hit back and it finshed 5-4.

Before our game at Colchester, my team and i sat down at Elland Road to watch the Carling Cup 3rd Round Draw, i will say that i am happy with the draw as once again we will have to beat Championship oppostion but this time it's Sheff Wed.
carlingcup3rdrounddraw.png
Now time for the Colchester game where my backroom staff and i have decided to try a new formation today in 4-3-1-2, we will be testing it out as Colchesterare currently leading League 1 and my Leeds Utd side are in 3rd but a win for me today would but us top as long as we better Carlisle's result. Had bad news as new signing top goalscorer Henri Camara out injured.
Team Line-Ups:
colchestervsleedslineup.png

I am pleased with this vital win espically aftergoing 1-0 down but as it was evident my team missed top goal scorer Henri Camara but goals from Beechio and Kilkenny who have been struggling to get into the starting 11 i might have to reconsider these players.

August 2009 Review
The new season is finally upon us at Elland Road after a load of changes at Leeds this summer but on the pitch they have really done the talking whether it's been Exeter or Doncaster Leeds havebeen in fine form in August. Leeds have had 5 games in League 1 this month with two good wins in the Carling Cup and looking forward to try and cause an upset at Hillsborough. We kicked off the Npower League 1 season with a 3-0 win at Elland Roa against Exeter followed by some tricky away games where Utd have come out on top with two 1-0 wins. Full Results and Match Reports Below:

Leeds 3-0 Exeter-Snodgrass,Camara (2)
Leeds 3-1 Darlington-Kisnorbo (2), Camara,Thorpe
Wycombe 0-1 Leeds-Bromby
Walsall 0-1 Leeds-Camara
Leeds 1-1 Tranmere-Camara,Savage
Leeds 5-4 Doncaster-Snodgrass,Camara,Beckford,Bromby,Jancker,Heffernan (3),Oster
Colchester 1-2 Leeds-Platt, Beechio, Kilkenny

What a fantastic start to the season with a 3-0 win against Exeter with Henri Camara scoring 2 on his debut he is now on 6 goals in 6 appearances and to think i got Camara on a free transfer in the summer. I also defeated Darlington and Doncaster in the Carling Cup and looking forward to a 3rd round tie at Hillsborough. Two 1-0 wins against Wycombe and Walsall and a 2-1 win away at early leaders Colchester but unfortunately a 1-1 draw at home with Tranmere has denied be us a 100% record as we are looking pretty at the top of the league 1 point clear of Colchester.

I was a bit disappointed that Henri Camara was not in the top 3 yet alone any other of my players are a succesful month.

September 1st 2009
The transfer window slammed shut but this didn't affect me as i had done most of my transfers by the end of July, is it just me or does Landon Donovan go to Chelsea in every save you do ? Below is a list of major transfers with large fees involved.
July's Major Transfers

Kolarov went to Man UItd when he is at City in real life !!! Lol
August's Major Transfers
augustmajortransfers.png

Intresting to see not any big name signings with record transfer fees but managers wheeling and dealing.

Now back onto Leeds United we had to travel up to Lincoln to take them on their turf in the Johnstons Paint Trophy North 1st round. I had taken a much weakened team giving players who haven't featured a lot for Leeds this season. you probably won't heard of some of the players but i hope they can do the job against League 2 side Lincoln who were flying in 3rd place with played 5,won 4 and lost 1. Here is my team:
lincolnvsleedslineups.png

I'm proud of my boys they fought hard out there and it took 5 and a half mins to break the lead with Abdelnasser Ouadah broke the deadlock with his first goal for Leeds. The match finshed 3-1 with Carsten Jancker getting the other 2 goals, Lincoln managed to get through our defence clean through on goal but back-up keeper Shane Higgs made a couple of cracking saves to keep us in front. I had a couple of scares as Somma and Howson had picked up knocks and i wasn't gunna risk them so i took them off.
lincolnvsleeds.png

I might just give some of these players a little run in with the 1st team , ancker was outstanding today with 2 goals and an assist Beckford and Camara better watch out, the same with Snodgrass and Van Der Meyde for Ouadah and Guel and lastly Walker better watch out for Shane Higgs who is seen to be Walker's replacement aat 38 Walker is bound to have to retire in a couple of seasons so that's when Higgs will really become a first team regular.
MOM:
Carsten Jancker

Never any doubt with 2 goals and an assist

Once again me and my team gathered at Elland Road in the changing room to see who we will face in the Johnstone's Paint Trophy North 2nd Round, we have got an away tie against League 2 oppossition but this time Bradford and i feel that i should give the players who beat Luton have a chance in this competition, here is a round-up of the draw.
spainttrophynorth2ndrou.png

Now we got all ready for the game at Elland Road against Stockport at 3 PM, after Carsten Jancker's excellent performance reward him with a place in the stratng line-up up front with Beckford, Camara is still out injured. After Higgs impressive display against Lincoln he retained his place along with Ouadah,,Guel, Campbell got back into the side on his return from injury, as Patrick Kisnorbo is on international duty with Austrilia and i gave my 170k signing Sandrinho another chance .Below is my side.
leedsvsstockportlineups.png

A good performance but you have to feel sorry for Jermaine Beckford having 2 goals disallowed both for offside where 1 waas clearly not and Jancker hit the crossbar. All that happened in the first half but 1st half we contuined on the same wave length and Guel hit the back of the net in the 63rd minute but once again with camara out the side struggled to convert the chances into goals, but its good to know that he will back for the next game as he is out for just 1 more day, at least we are 2 points clear at the top as Carlisle won and Colchester drew.
leedsvsstockport.png

This should boost the team's confidence but who does he play up front with Jermaine Beckford, Carsten Jancker, Luichano Beechio,David Somma (he plays ac or Striker) or untested Tony Boto ????
MOM
Alan Sheenan-The left back did well when called upon and has made the left back position his own

As we were still in 1st place with Carlisle heavily breathing down our necks we knew that we couldn't afford to drop any points against Southend at Roots Hall. With Camara back from injury and not knowing who to partner him up front so i asked my assiant Glynn Snondin he told me that Carsten Jancker should partner him.
southendvsleedslineups.png

Well what a good decision by my no.2 made, with a 4-1 win for my side, with Henri Camara scoring twice on his return from injury when he plays well the whole team plays well. It was also a good day for captain Damien Johnson as he netted his first goal for Leeds, the other goal came from winger Abdelnasser Ouadah.Carsten Jancker may have juts cemented his place up front with Camra, but at 35 you just wonder how many seasons has he got left in him, i'm hoping for at least a couple more seasons.A very confidence lads keep it up.

After the 4-1 win against Southend, and other results going our way with Colchester and Carlisle only managing draws we now had a 5 point lead at the top, so for our next game against Gillingham at Elland Road i was thinking whether to play fringe players or go out for demolsion job as Gillingham had lost 9-0 to Millwall last week.
gillinghamvsmillwall.png

I decided to do a mixture of fringe and first team, so here's i lined up, as i re-tried the Beckford and Camara strike partnership.
leedsvsgillinghamlineup.png

Beckord and Camara are working wel as beckford gets more for himself but Jancker brings others in to play. Beckforg got us off to a flyer after 9 minutes, but MOM has to go To Tchiressoua Guel scored a penalty then an absoulete brace from 30 yards

This date has been in my diary ever since the draw was made because even though we are playing away from home i can see us winning this carling cup 3rd round tie, the board wanted us to reach the 3rd round and are pleased that we have done this. I would have to make aty least a couple of changes to my side as are game against Gillingham was just 3 days ago i feel i will have to put Jancker in to the side to play route 1 football up to Jankcer and flick on to to Camara.

After the hard fought battle in midweek in which wen were defeated by Sheffield Wednesdaay, i would have to rest some players, i am still undecided on who to play up froont this promblem sees to be troubling and giving me sleepless nights. So once again i left my decision to my assistant, here's, he said to let Jancker and Beckford go upfront and leave Camara on the subs bench.

This was a confidet performance from Leeds Utd, after the disappoint after crashing out of the Carling Cup 3rd round but a superb hatrick from Jermaine Beckford, with Ritchie De Laet getting the other goal.

Today my Leeds side faced an injury-plaged side Carlisle, with 3 key players out, and my side in a marvellous run of form, i was well prepared and confident of securing a comfortable victory at Elland Road, i decided to use a 4-3-1-2 formatioan as my assistant said Carlisle do good against teams who play 4-4-2. I gave Beechio his first start of the season.
leedsvscarlislelineups.png

This was a good result. as Jancker gettng 2 and beckford getting the other, this partnership really seems to be working Camara might have a fight on his hands to get back in the starting line-up as he was injred in training and out for 2 weeks.

September 2009 Review
After a fairly impressive August, there was still plenty of room to improve this month as new boss Luke Sumner looks to establish himself and his Leeds team really wanted to make a move for promotion. With 7 fixtures in 3 different competitions they are League 1, Carling Cup (we were latered out in the 3rd round by sheff wed) and the Johnstone's Paint Trophy.

Lincoln 1-3 Leeds -Howe, Qudah, Jancker 2
Leeds 1-0 Stockport -Guel
Southend 1-4 Leeds -Conroy, Camara 2, D.Johnson,Quadah
Leeds 3-1 Gillingham -Beckford, Guel 2
Sheff Wed 2-1 Leeds -Tudgay,Ingrao, Snodgrass
MK Dons 2-4 Leeds - Chadwick,Gleeson, Beckford Hatrick, De Laet
Leeds 3-1 Carlisle -Jancker 2, Beckford, Hurst

What a month for Leeds Utd fans, with 19 goals in 7 games what more could the fans want. With only one hicup along the way against Sheffield Wednesday in a match Leeds were massive underdogs. The highlight of the month has to be the amount of goals the team has scored. Luke Sumner's management career.
