AS Monaco have a proud history of winning the Ligue 1 title on 7 occasions with the most recent coming in 2000. They have also reached the Champions League final and UEFA Cup final and won the French cup on 5 occasions. They play their home games at the Stade Louis II stadium in the principality of Monaco but play in the French league system.

AS Monaco, today announced the resignation of Claudio Ranieri who had been in charge of Les Monégasques since May 2012. Monaco and Ranieri cited they had different visions for the club.
Many names have been bandied about by the press such as Paul Le Guen and Raymond Domenech. However, at a press conference today, AS Monaco owner Dmitry Rybolovlev announced Sam Donovan as their new manager. The move has caught many off guard with some quarters stating a manger such as Donovan who has no experience is a gamble that Monaco could not afford to make. However, in his press conference Donovan speaking in flawless French impressed the gathered media, claiming he will do everything within his power to guide AS Monaco back to the top of Ligue 1.
Rybolovlev has given Donovan a transfer war chest of £13m to win promotion at the first attempt. It will be a tough task but Donovan remains confident that he can do it.
