I am in my fifth, almost sixth season having managed only at English clubs mainly in the Conference South. Recently I applied for a job at Scottish League One side Arbroath and went for an interview, only to lose out to a recently retired player with no managerial experience and lesser qualifications than myself. Is this because of the managers playing experience in Scotland, as it seems highly unrealistic otherwise?

Could be any number of factors, higher reputation, nationality, willing to take the wage, personality, pref formation.

Could be any number of reasons - did you get an interview? One wrong answer in the interview could blow it for you.

Could be reputation of the ex-player (who mentioned Steve Gerrard?) any connection with the club he has (club legend?)
