Today Hartlepool's caretaker manager Mick Wadsworth stepped down from his post; he had the following to say;

“I was delighted to have the chance to manager the squad but I feel I am unable to take the club any further and I have consolidated with Ken Hodcroft, the club chairman, and we have decided that it will be in the best interests of the club for me to step down and let someone step up to the plate”.

The Hartlepool fans are also hoping that Hartlepool player Ritchie Humphries, age 31, will step down from playing football and that he can try his hand at a managerial career.

Hartlepool are a low achieving team and have rarely had any success about from under the managerial guidance of the legendary Brian Clough who took them to the top flight of football.

Here at Sky Sports we have the following odds on who will be the new manager;

3/1 Greg Abbott
5/1 John Coleman
11/2 Keith Hill
40/1 Lee Clark
75/1 Ritchie Humphries

Following Fathers Footsteps

briansigns.jpg

Hartlepool United today announced that they have signed their new manager. Mr Nigel Clough today left his post as manager of Derby County to join the league 1 side that his father once took to the top flight of English football he has the following to say:

pressconference.jpg

“I am delighted to sign for this club. I grew up watching my father managing this club and I hope to succeed him after he had such great success. I never really found my feet at Derby County but I hope that I will here at Hartlepool and can take them to the next level”.

Nigel was also asked about the set-up of the club and what he is planning to do in the transfer market.

“The set-up at this club is little more than average but I believe that in the transfer market I can make some signings that will boost up the clubs squad so that they can progress. The key player at this club I believe is James Brown; he is a great player who I think is vital for the club moving forward. He has grown up in this town and I believe that he will be both good for the club and the fans as there is only one thing fans love more than a local star and that is success”.

Stay tuned to get the latest updates.

Clough Finds Signing Tough

New manager Nigel Clough has found it hard to purchase any players this season and has resorted to just loaning while he carries on looking for potential targets however he has been reported to be paying off the 9m debt Hartlepool have. He publically stated he has to pay off £55,000 per month.

However Nigel has signed two players on loan and here is what he had to say about both at a press conference.

“Hello I would like to welcome you all to this press conference I have called to introduce my two new loan signings. The first is 20 year old defender Ritchie De Laet who I have acquired from Manchester United on a season long loan where they will be paying all of the wages for Ritchie. The Second is Middlesbrough defender Seb Hines who I have also been able to loan for a season with them also paying 100% of his wages. Do you have any questions?”

delaet.jpg

“Yes, Sky Sports, I would like to ask how you think both of these players will fit into your team”.

“Well firstly thank you for your question and both of these players will be first team players who will be playing in my defence. Both Ritchie and Seb can play anywhere along the back line especially Ritchie who is a very diverse defender but both will most likely play as centre backs”.

sebhines.jpg

“Excuse me Nigel, Daily Mirror Sport, With these players being here for only one season are you worried that your other centre backs will have little match experience for when they take over again in the next season”.

“That’s a great question but I believe that these players will get first team football in the squad rotation system if there are injuries and unfit players. Also I may give some of the player’s chances in the cup but I will want to front my strongest team for cups especially the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy as I believe that is our best chance of silverware this season. I have time for one more question so, anyone?”

“Hello Nigel, Hartlepool Mail, have you had to sell any players to raise and funds this season”.

“Thank you for asking that and I have sold one player this season, Andy Monkhouse was sold to Barnsley for £120,000. However this was not to raise funds, it was a simple case of Andy not being a particularly key part of my first team plans and I thought I would take advantage of the interest in him and some money. Andy was a great asset of the club having played for 4 seasons. He was bought from Swindon in 2006 for £20,000 and has been sold for £100,000 more than that. I wish Andy a great deal of luck in the future but I hope he has no grudges against the club as he must understand it was good business and I let him go so he can get first team football as he is a great player. Well that’s it for this press conference and I would like to thank you again for coming and hope to see some positive publicity in the future”.

“Thank you Nigel”.

Man of the Match - Adam Boyd

The boys played well today with Adam getting a hat trick in the first game of the season it was a simple win as we brushed the reserve team aside.

Hartlepool 1 – 5 Fulham

Moussa Dembele (9)
Moussa Dembele (21)
Moussa Dembele (33)
Colin Larkn (71)
Jonathan Greening (88)
Eddie Johnson (90+2)

Man of the Match – Moussa Dembele

This game was not about the win I arranged this friendly to get some revenues and for the boys just to have an experience of top flight opposition but they run us ragged.

Hartlepool 0 – 1 Portuguesa

Silvio Luis (21)

Man of the Match - Silvio Luis

We should of got at least a draw here we played well but we were not favourites for the game and I believe our performance proves we are progressing.

Hartlepool 2 – 0 Dundee

James Brown (36)
Ritchie De Laet (pen 74)

Man of the Match - James Brown

It was a delight to see that we triumphed over a team that was even favourites and Ritchie and James both had a great game and it was great to see them both score there first goal of this campaign.

Kettering 0 – 3 Hartlepool

Adam Boyd (17)
James Brown (23)
Adam Boyd (90+3)

Man of the Match – Adam Boyd

Adam had a particularly great game today and he was unfortunate to only have scored 2 he could of easily had 3 or 4 maybe even 5 but I am pleased that we dominated.

Hartlepool 3 – 0 GH Academy

Adam Boyd (7)
Ritchie Humphreys (30)
Denis Behan (40)

Man of the Match – Adam Boyd

Adam is in the form of his life and is scoring the goals for fun but it wasn’t all about him as it was nice to see Denis step up to show why he is a contender for a striking role.

Tamworth 0 – 2 Hartlepool

View attachment 103677

Colin Larkin (2)
Armann Smari Bjornsson (52)

Man of the Match – Ritchie De Laet

I expected more from the lads today but Ritchie must be credited for us keeping a clean sheet as he made some vital tackles and covered for us but we got the result and that’s what mattered.

Hayes & Yeading 0 – 4 Hartlepool

Man of the Match – Adam Boyd

Adam continuous his tremendous form with his second hat trick in the pre-season a great confidence lifter for the boys as we dominated for the first to the final whistle.

James Brown (20)
James Brown (23)

James Brown (46)

Man of the Match – James Brown

Our star striker James managed his first hat trick of the campaign as the boys dominated at Ilkeston and no surprise that Adam was also on the score sheet with his great form continuing.

Hartlepool 0 – 1 Birmingham

View attachment 103680

James McFadden (17)

Man of the Match – James McFadden

I am both surprised and proud of the boys as they challenged Birmingham and maybe we should have got a draw but I couldn’t ask much more of the boys as I did not expect them to do so well.

Billingham Town 0 – 5 Hartlepool

James Brown (10)
Gary Liddle (12)
Peter Hartley (pen 39)
James Brown (53)
Adam Boyd (70)

Man of the Match – James Brown

James proved why he is our star striker today as he slots home 2 against local team Billingham Town and I think that was a fair result considering we were firm favourites.

Hartlepool 1 – 0 Dundee

Adam Boyd (38)

Man of the Match – James Brown

Although Adam was the only scorer James was easily the best player out there for me but he just failed to slot the ball into the net.

Player of the Pre-Season

This was such a difficult award to give as both James and Adam where outstanding in this year’s pre-season fixtures and they were inseparable.

adamboyd.jpg

jamesbrownq.jpg

Top Scorer of the Pre-Season

Adam scored 12 goals in the 12 games we have played which is some great form and if he keeps it up in the league season he will be challenging for top scorer of the season.

The lads performed brilliantly today winning a game that they where not expected to all in all a great result.James played brilliantly today before being taken off the pitch with a worry of an injury

Hartlepoool Struck With Injury Woe

jamesbrown2.jpg

I am dissapointed to announce that our striker James Brown, who i believe is one of our key players, has broken his foot during our 4-1 win at the St.Mary's.

Scunthorpe 2 - 1 Hartlepool

Gary Thompson (53)
Martyn Woolford (71)
Colin Larkin (86)

Man of the Match - Gary Thompson

We went into this game with everyone predicting we would loose and we caused no upsets. The match was tight towards the end and maybe we could of snagged an equaliser but this defeat means we are out of the Carking Cup.

Huddersfield 3 - 2 Hartlepool

Joe Garner (14)
Joao Silva (18)
Alex Smithies (O.G 36)
Adam Boyd (70)
Lee Novak (87)

Man of the Match - Lee Peltier

Maybe we should have picked up a point here but we fought back well and i am pleased with the boys performance and we gave them a run for their money when we were favourites to loose.

Hartlepool 3 - 0 Notts Co

Adam Boyd (23)
Ritchie De Laet (33)
Adam Boyd (77)

Man of the Match - Adam Boyd

A great solid performance both attacking and defending by the boys and the two best players rightly got on the score sheet. Adam is proving that he can make up for the loss of James well.

Hartlepool 1 - 2 Bristol Rovers

Darryl Duffy (11)
Darryl Duffy (22)
Adam Boyd (76)

Man of the Match - Darryl Duffy

We were even favourites today but with recent results i was hopeful but we got off to a terrible start in the first half but i thought we may have got a point in the second half with a great comeback with the boys which showed great character but a shame we couldn’t pick up any points

Carlisle 0 - 1 Hartlepool

View attachment 103705

Adam Boyd (31)

Man of the Match - Seb Hines

I would of liked to see us clinch one more goal to put some daylight between us and Carlisle but we failed to do so but our defence was brilliant today and Seb truly deserved man of the match i believe.

Player of the Month

For me this month Ritchie was outstanding although he picked up no man of the match awards he was solid for us and got 1 goal but the most important factor was his consistency at the back of the field. Well done Ritchie.

delaet2.jpg

Top Scorer of the Month

Adam Boyd has form from the pre-season continued as he has scored 5 goals in 5 appearances and if he keeps this up he will definitely be top goal scorer for league 1 this season.

adamboyd2.jpg

very very nice Paul, loving the team badges, clean, fresh and well layed out, good results too, good win against Southampton, espectially away from home..

pity about James Brown, how long is he out for?
good preseason too, some nice wins there!

He is out for 4 more months but i have loaned and bought 2 replacements so i think i should be ok

Public statement issued by Nigel Clough on 1st September 2009

“I have written this public statement today to tell you all about the signings I have made towards the end of the transfer season to combat the injury of James Brown and boosting the club squad. I have loaned 2 more players since the last press conference and bough 2 more for the club to keep. The first loan signing I have made is Rhys Murphy, a young 18 year old striker who I have agreed to loan from Arsenal for a season and they have agreed to pay his wages in full for the duration of his stay here at Hartlepool United.

rhysmurphy.jpg

The second loan signing was the last minute signing of Manchester United striker Bebe, a 19 year old Portuguese striker who I think will be a great addition to the squad. Like Rhys he will be with us for a season without us having to pay a penny towards his wages. Between Bebe and Rhys I hope they will act as excellent first team goal scorers and they hopefully will also hold the strike force up while James Brown is recovering from his broken foot.

bebexg.jpg

My first permanent signing is of Alex Nicholls, the young 21 year old striker who we have bought from Walsall for a sum of £22,000. I believe Alex will act as great cover for the first tea and will often get to play in the first team. The only concern I have with Alex is that he can be described as liable to injury with him suffering 3 injuries last year. However he has great potential and I believe he will one day break into the first team and maybe he will be a great success in the championship when we get there.

alexnicholls.jpg

Finally I decided to sign young Blackburn academy graduate John Kennedy who was not given a first team contract at Blackburn and I decided to snap him up. For £3,000 he is an absolute bargain he has a great finishing took and is able to slot the ball into the goal easily for an 18 year old and maybe if he does not pay off his potential will make his value rise and he could be a great investment for the club financially.

I thank you for reading this public statement and hope that I will be able to update you with some success for this club”.

I'm from Hartlepool and i think you should try and sign one of liverpool's young strikers they will win you the league

September Round Up

September was an important month for us with the first round of the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy which I believe is our best chance of silverware however the way we are doing in the league we are sure promotion candidates after such a great start to the season. I believe my squad is finding some motivation with the critics and media saying that they were tipped for relegation at the start of the season but now surely we must be promotion hopefuls.

Hartlepool 4 – 1 Lincoln

Steve Tully (pen 26)
Alex Nicholls (29)
Armann Smari Bjornsson (38)
Denis Behan (55)
Rhys Murphy (64)

Man of the Match - Armann Smari Bjornsson

I must admit I was a little nervy when I saw the boys fall 1-0 down and give away a penalty but they soon picked themselves up. Armann was the star of the show and dominated in the air and that is why he is in our team.

Hartlepool 2 – 1 Swindon

Rhys Murphy (12)
Adam Boyd (16)
Jon-Paul McGovern (65)

Man of the Match – Neil Austin

Our defence was key in this match as we were unable to gain more than a 2 goal advantage towards the end and we had to keep Swindon at bay to get a result and we owe all credit to our defence for this result.

Hartlepool 2 – 1 Oldham

Adam Boyd (pen 16)
Alex Nimely-Tchuimeni (28)
Adam Boyd (81)

Man of the Match – Adam Boyd

This was a difficult match for us with Oldham being top of the league at this moment in time and we happened to take an early advantage but Oldham fought back and credit to Adam Boyd for getting us the late winner.

Yeovil 1 – 1 Hartlepool

John Sullivan (O.G 45+1)
Adam Virgo (90+3)

Man of the Match – Adam Virgo

I thought this fixture would be the easiest for us this month but all credit to Yeovil who fought back and in the dying seconds Adam Virgo got a deserved goal, he was causing us trouble down the right flank all game and I take all responsibility for not acting on it.

Plymouth 0 – 1 Hartlepool

Bebe (22)

Man of the Match – Scott Flinders

This was the hardest fixture for us with Plymouth having a squad that should easily get them back into the championship that they departed from last season but our keeper Scott Flinders was responsible for us receiving the 3 points as he made some extraordinary saves.

Hartlepool 3 – 0 Colchester

Gary Liddle (31)
Bebe (38)
Adam Boyd (70)

Man of the Match – Bebe

A strong performance from the boys today with Bebe showing why he was a good loan signing for the club he was outstanding today and maybe should of netted a few more.

Leyton Orient 1 – 2 Hartlepool

Bebe (1)
Bebe (33)
Gokhan Tore (42)

Man of the Match – Bebe

Bebe was once again outstanding today however it was a bit nervy with only a one goal lead for most of the game but we never gave up and got the 3 points we deserve.

Player of the Month

Once again young Ritchie has had a solid and consistent month at the back and we have only conceded 10 goals this season and I think he is a key reason for this.

ritchiedelaet.jpg

Top Scorer of the Month

This month’s top scorers were Adam Boyd and Bebe with both of them netting 4 between them. Overall this month we scored 15 and those two alone account for more than half of that tally.
adamboyd3.jpg
http://img255.imageshack.us/img255/3438/adamboyd3.jpg

please post a screenshot of Bebe for me, i have yet to see what he looks like on Fm, very good results there Paul, keep it up mate :P

great read so far mate you are doing well and also really liking your clean layout keep it up

Hartlepool 3 – 1 Brighton

Gary Liddle (5)
Peter Hartley (O.G 22)
Ritchie Humphreys (45+1)
Seb Hines (pen 58)

Man of the Match – Ritchie De Laet

A good win for the team however I hope Peter is not to down hearted as the O.G was a good effort to prevent a goal but unfortunately he just couldn’t divert it off the line.

Carlisle 1 – 1 Hartlepool (1-3 p)

Ritchie De Laet (68)
Kevan Hurst (90+1)

Man of the Match – Ritchie De Laet

A key match for us this season as this is a particular piece of silverware that I am targeting and it was tense. We had beat Carlisle earlier in the league 1-0 and I believe it should not of gone to penalties but we had some sloppy defending in the last 10 however Scott our keeper came to the rescue.

Hartlepool 3 – 1 Exeter

Rhys Murphy (29)
Armann Smari Bjornsson (44)
Bebe (57)
Daniel Nardiello (67)

Man of the Match – Armann Smari Bjornsson

This was a game that was key for us to pick up 3 points from. I have a huge amount of respect for Exeter however the match was used to draw in new fans and I wanted to give them a performance to hook them to supporting this club.

Peterborough 2 – 0 Hartlepool

Grant McCann (pen 81)
Shane Lowry (84)

Man of the Match – Steven Hammell

This 2-0 defeat brought an end to our unbeaten run of 13 games in the league. However I knew it would be a difficult game and until the 80th minute we were contenders to pick up something from the match but after the penalty decision our teams morale dropped drastically.

Tranmere 0 – 2 Hartlepool

Bebe (49)
Ritchie De Laet (82)

Man of the match – Ritchie De Laet

The team played well today after the loss against Peterborough it was good to see their morale take no beating and they responded with a dominating 2-0 victory which could of easily been a lot more one sided and this score line does not do the domination justice.

Hartlepool 3 – 0 Dag & Red

Ritchie De Laet (54)
Bebe (62)
Adam Boyd (79)

Man of the Match – Ritchie De Laet

Ritchie today put in another brilliant performance as he picked up his second consecutive man of the match away and for a defender to score 2 goals in 2 games is an achievement which proves his dominance in the air during set pieces.

Player of the Month

For the third month running our young defender Ritchie De Laet has claimed our player of the month award. He has been a real force at the back since he joined for us on a loan. He has however particularly shone this month with 4 Man of the match awards.

delaet3.jpg

Top Scorer of the Month

This month the top scorer position is awarded to two loan signings young Bebe and Ritchie De Laet. They both netted 3 goals this month which is brilliant but especially for Ritchie who after all is a centre back but still when done to the both of them.

delaet4.jpg

Good story so far and nice layout as well. Can you post a screenie of the league table if you don't mind? Thanks (H)
