Liverpool FC Long Term Story

View attachment 124117
It almost doesn't feel right to do a story about Liverpool with Klopp working his magic right now but let's do one anyway. I always play a long term save with Liverpool on FM and to make it a bit more challenging, I'm only gonna sign one first team player per season, keep the team together and promote our youth prospects. I'm going to use the youth academy to bring through players and sign regens.

Liverpool's first pre season game didn't go very well, drawing against Tranmere but more concerning is the fact that Jordan Henderson picked up an injury which means he could miss the start of the season. England of course needed to replace their manager after big Sam was sacked and they did so with Jose Antonio Camacho.

What a surprise Daniel Sturridge picked up an injury and to be honest i'm planning on giving every player a chance but i can see Sturridge leaving sooner rather than later. James Milner has been progressing well, training in his new position of left back, if he keeps this up he'll be in line to start the season.

As if we didn't have enough injuries, Mignolet suffered a fractured arm in a friendly against Mainz, the team we just took Loris Karius off. I guess they were ****** off and with Karius out injured we're left with Alexander Manninger for the at least the first few weeks of the season lol.

View attachment 124111
These ******* injuries!! One of our most important players Nathaniel Clyne has been ruled out for 5 months with a broken leg I don't know if I've just been really unfortunate or the injuries are just a bit ridiculous at the moment. Hendo also picked up another injury on his return to action and will also miss the start of the season.

Pre season comes to an end and it was a good one but it's only pre season and i can't wait to kick off the season. The injuries we've suffered are out of control with several key players out, we have got Matip and Henderson returning to training but they won't be ready for the first game of the season. What a game it is, United at home and we also play Tottenham away.

Joe Gomez came back in to training at almost the perfect time with Clyne out for such a long time and Gomez has looked okay in a couple of pre season games at right back, big game for him. It was a really tight game but the sending off really changed the game, Rooney lost his head and we had to take advanta
ge. The team did exactly that and just like he did in real life against Arsenal, Sadio Mane scored on his debut along with another debut goal from Ragnar Klavan.

Next up against Sunderland a game we really should be winning and a 3-0 scoreline to Liverpool doesn't tell you the whole story. They came at us in the first half but we weathered the storm, Firmino broke the deadlock, scored the second and Henderson added a third.

With the game against Tottenham coming up I made nine changes for this game and we dominated but we had to rely on an own goal to get over the line, we need to be better against these teams but we're in the next round and we will face Chelsea, at Stamford Bridge in the next round, tough game.

On to the Tottenham game and playing away I was always expecting a difficult game unfortunately we just couldn't stop them, they're a really good team and they beat us today but we'll get better, we've only played a couple of games.

A good start for our Liverpool team with a fantastic win against United but we end on a low with that loss against Tottenham. Next time we've got some difficult matches, especially those away trips to Chelsea.

I disabled the first transfer window to make the game more realistic so just a couple of young players going out on loan in this transfer window.

View attachment 123463
Southampton are always my bogey team so I was a bit worried about this one but Wijnaldum continued his goal scoring form with two goals and ultimately the difference between the two sides. They did come back in the second half when Lovren give away a penalty but Tadic put it wide and we held on for the win.

A difficult away trip to West Ham and we struggled a bit here, Coutinho has been in poor form and i dropped him for Origi and moved Firmino to the left, Origi did well and capped his performance with a goal but we need to do better.

I rotated the team for this one as I'm going all out for the league this season, unfortunately we couldn't get the win in this one and it was always going to be hard even with our first team and they only rotated a couple of players, less than we did.

Some disappointing results recently so we really need to get a win and get back on track. We struggled to break the deadlock in the first half but Origi came up with a fantastic finish before Dejan Lovren wrapped up the game late on. Unfortunately Mane picked up an injury, it's not a bad one but he will miss our next game against Chelsea, which is frustrating because he's been one of our best players so far this season.

We did well in this one and were always in the game but it all went to **** in the second half, they scored and Emre Can got sent off. Somehow we managed to score out of nowhere from a Coutinho wonder goal but i was never confident after the sending off and they smashed us, making the extra man count.

A real mix of results in our last few matches, we've beat the teams we should be beating but we need to improve against the big teams, those two results against Chelsea need to be much better. Next time we've got games that we have to win and we finish with an away trip to Man City.

We dominated them and although we had some nervy moments we definitely deserved to win, we did that with a solid 2-0 scoreline, goals from Origi and Matip. Unfortunately Mane picked up an injury after just returning to action, hes very important to us and he'll be a big miss.

Benteke makes his return against his former club but he wasn't fully fit for this game, he still played though but we handled him and came away with the three points, the goals coming from another wonder strike from Coutinho and another goal for in form Origi.

Watford having been a surprise to teams this season and showed a lot in this game, the game was really close. Deeney put them ahead but a red card from Holebas just before half time helped us out as we pulled one back in the second half but we have to disappointed we didn't get the victory, it was there for the taking!

City come in to this one topping the table in 1st, while Liverpool are sitting in 4th. They just played in Europe and I wanted to try and make the most of that but unfortunately we couldn't do it, they smashed us in the first half but it was a game of two halves, they tired in the second half and we came right back in to the game but we just couldn't quite take advantage.

We're on course to qualify for the Europa League but i really want to qualify for the Champions League this season. We haven't made the best start but we're doing okay, we're still up there and we actually play Arsenal at the Emirates in the next game, if we win, we can move in to 4th.

View attachment 122903
We started off well in this one with back to back wins but a draw against Watford followed by a defeat to Man City. Next we've obviously got that huge game against Arsenal, we can't lose if we want to keep fighting at the top end of the table, we follow that with our first taste of the Merseyside Derby.

A huge game against Arsenal and we simply cannot lose this game if we want to keep up the pace for our top four place. I played a counter attacking game plan for this and we were brilliant on the break, Arsenal kept coming back in to the game though and always looked dangerous. Ultimately we come away with a crucial three points though and we go above them as a result! Goals from Origi, Matip and Mane.

Another huge game this time against our closest Rivals Everton and it looks like the lads took a lot of confidence from that result against Arsenal. We smashed them off the pitch and i couldn't believe what I was seeing at times, 5-0 we beat them with Origi and Mane putting in incredible displays with two goals each.

Matip has been fantastic with two very important goals in the last month and he's been named Player of the Month for November and Origi also won the Young Player of the Month with three goals in three games. The board also made transfer funds available for the upcoming January transfer window and I already have a few targets in mind but I'm only aloud one to sign one first team player so I need to make sure I get it right.

Not much to say about this, the usual suspects, Origi and Matip score again, Firmino scored as well. We're going to have to start rotating a few players who haven't played much as we play more games in December and hopefully an FA Cup run to follow in January.

View attachment 122891

I rotated a few players in for this game and I've got to say it backfired, we didn't look like the team playing recently and could only manage a draw against 16th place Hull who we should really be beating.

View attachment 122890
Danny Ings comes in to lead the line for this one and he definitely took his chance with one goal and one assist, the team also looked very good as we got back to our best and come out 4-0 winners, the other goals come from Coutinho, Firmino and WIjnaldum. I know we should be be beating West Brom but they actually come in to this one in 6th place so we've done well to win this match so comfortably.

We've been doing well lately but United are right on our tails in the league and we play them in the last game of the next update, that's going to be some game! Great run of games for the team there, that win against Arsenal was something special and although we can be disappointed we didn't beat Hull, we're looking a lot better now.

We didn't get off to the best start when Danny Ings missed a penalty against his former club, we kept going though and Ings managed to score and get another assist, Firmino was fantastic with two, Coutinho and then Lallana got the other goals. Unfortunately Ings picked up an injury, breaking his foot and keeping him out for 3-4 months, frustrating because he's been fantastic in his last two games.

Sakho was one of a number of players wanting more of a first team chance this season, with a limited number of opportunities for my players because of no European football, I've stuck almost exclusively to a partnering of Matip and Lovren but with Sakho coming out firing with two goals in the first ten minutes, I've got a decision to make. Another fantastic display from the team and our good run goes on!

Stoke proved difficult to handle in this game and I thought they would be, they come in to this one in 10th place and Diouf proved to be the man for them scoring his 16th goal in 21 games, Coutinho pulled one back late on to rescue the draw. It's not great but we've had some big wins recently and at least we're still unbeaten.

Massive game coming up here we're doing really well in the league in second place, four points off Tottenham and United aren't far behind in 5th with four points less than Liverpool. This was really close, they took the lead with a goal from Rooney but we managed to score another late goal from Mane, that's a good point for us and I feel like we deserved it.

Firmino won Player of the month for Decemeber, with Coutinho and Matip rounding off the top three. Free scoring wins against Burnley and Leicester and two difficult draws against Stoke and United in this update, we could've done better but we're still on an unbeaten run.

The January transfer window is open and just five hours in, we had bids for Emre Can from City and Barcelona for around £40M. I recently promised him that we would qualify for the Champions League this season and we really need to do that if we want to keep him, he's only got two and a half years on his contract as well.

View attachment 122228
We really should have scored more goals here, Divock Origi missed some absolute sitters and he's not been on the best run of form lately. Coutinho hit the post twice and the team hit the post two more times, ultimately though it was Wijnaldum coming off the bench that made the difference, with a wonderful goal.

View attachment 122227

Despite what looks like a routine result, we were really poor in this game and gave them chance after chance while not creating much, the changes really made a difference to the game and the own goal really helped us out before Firmino wrapped up the game late on.

The fans were not happy about this one and they've got a right to be, this lad has only applied his trade in the Championship for Leeds but hopefully with a bit of tutoring he can be a good rotation option for us. They are definitely better players at left back but until we get back in to the Champions League, we can't really attract those top players and although I don't think Taylor well ever be top quality he's adds some depth to a position we need to strengthen. It's also worth a mention that several premier league clubs where in for him and if we didn't sign him now he would cost a lot more, later down the line.

We will face Cardiff in the Fourth round of the FA Cup, another good draw for us against Championship opposition. We weren't great in the EFL Cup and with the limitied number of games left this season, I wanted to try my absolute best to win this trophy.

View attachment 122223
There's been a lot of interest in our players and when Bayern agreed to pay £50M for Mamadou Sakho, I just couldn't say no. He's third choice behind Matip and Lovren and to get that much for Sakho is very impressive, especially when you consider Lovren has only been attracting offers of £26M.

View attachment 122222

It's a risk to sell Sakho because Lovren is currently unsettled at the club but it's a move to China he wants not a bigger career move to Barca or Bayern. We're about to lose Sadio Mane and Joel Matip for a couple of weeks, as he goes off to the African Cup of Nations so it could go wrong but it was too good to turn down really and we've get Joe Gomez, Ragnar Klavan and even Lucas who can fill in. Fortunately for us Matip hasn't been playing for Cameroon and we only lost Mane.

View attachment 122221
Tottenham sit top of the table four points ahead of us in second and if we've got any aspirations of winning the title this season, we simply have to win this game. Firmino was absolutely majestic in this game, he seemed to react really well to being given the opportunity to lead the line ahead of Origi, with two goals and a hand in the third, he was the difference.

View attachment 122220

Southampton come in to this one in a disappointing position of 18th place and they really had a point to prove, we definitely missed Mane in the first half but we looked much better when we changed the system and brought Origi on in the second half. Ultimately it's two points dropped though and we've lost ground on Spurs after that brilliant win.

View attachment 122219

We're going well in the league and it looks like we're on course to finish in the Champions League, it's going to be really hard to win the league this year but we're on a very lengthy unbeaten run at the moment, if we can keep it up, we've got a chance.

View attachment 122218
Another good run of games for the boys and most importantly still unbeaten, we're winning in all of our home games but struggling in the away games, I'll definitely be looking to improve that. Next update sees us host Cardiff at home, in the fourth round of the FA Cup and we also have a really big game at Anfield, when Chelsea come to town.

Good news ahead of this one with Lovren dropping the issue of wanting to leave and promising to stay at the club. It was the Divock Origi show, a hat trick for him clearly bouyed by his two goals coming off the bench at Southampton, he was magnificent today and won us the game. Unfortunately Firmino picked up an injury keeping him out for three weeks.

I played a few young players in this game, Gomez looked good at centre back, Grujic unfortunately had to go off after 20 minutes but it was Sheyi Ojo who really took his chance in this game, with a goal and an assist. He's struggled when starting games this season and looked better off the bench but he played really well today, as did the team, not allowing Cardiff a single shot on goal.

We will face Norwich City in the next round the draw has definitely been kind to us here with another Championship team, now we have to make sure we beat them. The transfer window come to a close and Liverpools Sakho moving to Bayern for £50M was the biggest deal of the window.

View attachment 121929
View attachment 121928
In the Premier League, City were the big spenders bringing in Gabriel Jesus, Casemiro and Kongolo and as you can see from the screenshot above, they actually made late bids at the end of the transfer window for Sheyi Ojo, the latest potentially rising to £15M, Liverpool declined all offers. Chelsea signed William Carvalho, while Arsenal signed Mauro Icardi and Jesse Lingard moved to West Ham for big money.

View attachment 121927
On the Liverpool front, obviously that deal that saw Sakho move on to Bayern was the biggest deal of the window but other than that there wasn't much going on, Moreno went on loan to Benfica to get more football, we loaned a couple of youngsters out and we got rid of Tiago Ilori who was never going to get in the team. We also have buy back clauses of £1M for Brooks Lennon and £2.5M for Jordan Williams.

View attachment 121916
Divock Origi takes both the Player of the Month and Young Player of the Month award for January, in the Premier League. He's been fantastic this season and Firmino also come Second in the Goal of the Month competition, my players never seem to win or even come in the top three for these awards so it's good to see one of them in there.

2nd vs 3rd here, Liverpool coming in to this one ahead of Chelsea in the table and a huge game for the rest of the season. I honestly never saw this result coming, we were absolutely incredible in this game and lethal in front of goal, we beat Chelsea 7-1!!! I couldn't believe it, Origi with a hat trick and three goals from my centre backs, two from Matip, what a result!

With Tottenham slipping up away to West Ham in the league, with a 2-2 draw, we now have a perfect opportunity to close the gap and go within just one point of them, we've got Middlesborough away. We had to wait to play our game but we delivered when it come to it, Henderson caped his return from suspension with a goal and Ojo got on the score sheet as well, overall a good team performance.

So after that win we're just one point away from Tottenham, we need to keep winning though, ready to pounce if they slip up again. This run of games has been perfect from the team a 100% record, four wins and bags of goals, we're playing really well at the moment. Next time we have some tough games, away trips to Bournemouth and Man City and a home game against Watford.

Another good display from the team, we have to be beating Norwich and we did exactly that, Matip and Origi with the goals and Firmino come off the bench in the second half after returning from injury. We face Tottenham in the next round, away from home but we're in to the quarter finals now.

More and more awards for Liverpool players, Matip won Player of the Month for the second time this season, while Origi come in third behind Fernandinho. Origi did manage to pick up Young Player of the Month though and Sheyi Ojo came in behind at second.

Emre Can picked up his 15th yellow card of the season so he'll miss the next three games! This next game is a big one and it's going to be difficult away from home, although Tottenham are just coming off the back of a game in the Europa League. What a game of football, we totaled 42 shots to their 27! 3-1 up at half time we really should of seen the game out, Marko Grujic scored his first goal and it wasn't bad at all he added another before half time.

This game literally had everything dubious refereeing decisions, dramatic goals and wonder strikes as well, Sturridge also scored a magnificent goal, what looked like the winner in extra time but Sansone pulled one back late on. It went to penalties and after Tottenham missed their first three penalties and we put away our first two, it was looking good but incredibly we missed our last three penalties.

Some confusion over the fifth penalty taker, I was sure I told the team that Mane was fifth and Henderson was the sixth penalty taker, if needed but Henderson stepped up to miss the fifth penalty. Mane and then Lovren stepped up and slotted home as unfortunate Ben Davies missed the deciding penalty. I have to say I was confident when it went to penalties they had a lot of young players out there as they rotated the team and we had the expeirence, We're into the Semis!

We play West Ham in the Semi Finals of the FA Cup and with the other Semi Final containing Sunderland and Middlesborough we have to fancy our chances.

View attachment 121323
There was some really tired players in the team from going all the way to penalties against Tottenham so I was expecting a tough game. I couldn't believe how well the team played, just like the Chelsea game I told the team to take revenge for the previous results in the season and they definitely did that! What a performance.

A different kind of challenge with Palace second bottom of the table, we had to make sure we didn't get complacent and for the most part we did that. Solid 2-0 victory with goals from Coutinho and Ojo.

We knew before the game that Tottenham had dropped points losing 1-0 away to Man City, unfortunately though we couldn't take advantage, Firmino lead the line and put us ahead and then back in to the lead after they scored, but there was confusion around Lovren and Mignolet giving Lukaku an easy goal. Firminos first goal was an absolute wonder goal!!

Henderson was suspended for this game but Origi really stepped up here, with two goals and an assist and Mane wasn't bad either, scoring and assisting. It's all to play for in the league, we top the table for the first time going in to our next game but only on goal difference, Tottenham are right there with us and it looks like it could go right down to the wire, with just six games remaining. Another brilliant run of games from the team, we covered the ground on Tottenham and now we just need to keep going, next time its business time in the league and we need to keep up the pace with Tottenham, we also play West Ham in the FA Cup Semi Final.

It's a risk to sell Sakho because Lovren is currently unsettled at the club but it's a move to China he wants not a bigger career move to Barca or Bayern. We're about to lose Sadio Mane, Joel Matip for a couple of weeks, as he goes off to the African Cup of Nations so it could go wrong but it was too good to turn down really and we've get Joe Gomez, Ragnar Klavan and even Lucas who can fill in. Fortunately for us Matip hasn't been playing for Cameroon and we only lost Mane.

Loving reading this, seems your doing great and have some impressive results against the big teams!
I'm starting a Liverpool save myself, I'm trying to work out who's the best partnership to be the back 2 out of Sakho, Matip and Lovern... what worked best for you?

Thank you! Definetely Matip and Lovren for me you'll see as the season comes to an end, when I show the player stats they played almost every game for me this season. If you use Sakho definitely switch him out for Lovren on the left side, I like Sakho and he's better than Klavan but for £50M, a player who isn't gonna play many games, I couldn't say no. Good luck with your story.

Whats up with Can? seems like he's getting booked every match he plays

Apart from Karius playing in goal for Mignolet, this has been my starting line up for most league games this season. I think it's because he's the only real defensive player in the midfield, the only one with defend duty and the front five are given a lot of freedom to get forward but yes he has picked up a ton of yellow cards. I'm sure it will show when I show the player stats, oh and Wijnaldum often played for Henderson which makes this formation even more attacking.

A broken foot for Kevin Stewart, he's not been one of our most influential players but you never want to see anyone get injured. With Tottenham losing 4-0 to North London rivals Arsenal we had a fantastic opportunity to put some breathing room between us and them but unfortunately we couldn't do that. The players really felt the pressure and nobody turned up, very disappointing, if we're gonna win the league we need to be much better!!

Mane picked up an injury against Swansea and he'll be a big miss for this game and the big game against West Ham coming up. What a time to hit a bad run, I rested a few players with that big game against West Ham coming up in the FA Cup but the team i put out was more than good enough to beat Hull and they couldn't do it! Tottenham don't play until the weekend but we could of just handed them the title, we might of just lose it!!

Divock Origi has struggled to find the back of the net in our last two games but he started the game and he saved his best form for this big game at Wembley. West Ham took the lead through Zaza but they simply couldn't handle Origi and he was the difference, netting a hat trick! We play Sunderland in the Final and we've got to win this one!

What a game against Burnley, our defending was shocking in the first half but what a reaction from the team in the second half. 4-2 down they managed to make a recovery and come back to win the game 5-4. Origi was on form with another hat trick, his second in as many games and the late goals come from Henderson and Lovren.

Tottenham started off with that very poor defeat to rivals Arsenal but they went on to win their next two games while we only managed a draw and a win, just about. That means unfortunately they're two points ahead going in to the last three games of the season, we need them to slip up but most importantly we need to win our games.

A difficult run of games in this update, our lengthy unbeaten run come to an end with a loss to Swansea and we also dropped points against Hull and barely got over the line against Burnley. We did manage to beat West Ham and advance to the final of the FA Cup to play Sunderland, find out if we can catch Tottenham, win the title and the FA Cup in the next update.

It was always going to be a challenge against the champions Leicester and it was really close in the first half but we looked like the team more likely to score and eventually we did exactly that. We wrapped up the game in the second half when Wijnaldum scored from the spot. Unfortunately Divock Origi had to come off injured and he'll miss the last two league games but hopefully he should be back in to time for the FA Cup Final. Tottenham played later and they managed to get a win against West Brom, going two points clear at the top of the table.

We struggled to break them down in this game and we looked a bit lost without our main man Divock Origi, eventually we did get the breakthrough though and they pulled one back right at the end but we managed to hold on to the lead. Tottenham also won in thier game, 5-1 against Burnley and we head in to the last game of the season, still needing them to slip up for us to win the title.

A good win from the team with goals from Coutinho, returning to the side, Firmino and Wijnaldum. Unfortunately though Tottenham did win in their game at home to Leicester, 2-0 in the end so we don't win the title, it's so frustrating and i'm disappointed but second is a good finish and we'll try to be better next season!

It's disappointing not to win the league especially after that fantastic unbeaten run but luckily for us we have an opportunity to put that behind us and lift another trophy right away, we play Sunderland in the FA Cup Final. What an incredible performance from the lads, we come out of the blocks and absolutely smashed them, it was 6-0 after 25 minutes!!

A hat trick from Coutinho, two from Mane and a goal for Origi on his return to the side. They did score a late goal but that doesn't really matter, we've won our first trophy of the story and hopefully it will be the first of many!

A perfect run of games to finish an excellent season for the team, four wins out of four but it wasn't enough in the league as Tottenham kept their concentration to lift the league title but we saved the best win til last as we thumped Sunderland 6-1 to end the season on a high and lift the FA Cup.

Tottenham of course won the league but we've done well to finish second and we can build on that for next year, try and win it again. United and Arsenal complete the top four with Middlesborough, Crystal Palace and Burnley all getting relegated.

On to the end of season awards and Harry Kane run away with literally every award, he won Footballer of the Year, Players Player of the Year, Players Young Player of the Year and he won the Top Goalscorer award, with 31 goals, Divock Origi come in second with 25 goals.

No less than five players in the Premeir League Team of the Year, three of the back four, Milner, Lovren and Matip all getting in and we possibly could of had Clyne in their as well if he'd played all season. Firmino and Mane also enjoyed great seasons and I was a little surprised to see Origi lose out to Firmino up front.

Great performances from the team this season, the form of players has been quality this year and the only player I'd say I was disappointed with is Lallana, when I gave him a chance in the first team, he didn't show up and you can expect to see him on the way out. The three forward stars at Liverpool Firmino, Coutinho and Mane, all enjoyed great seasons every one of them getting double figures in assists and goals.

The Fans Player of the Season was Dejan Lovren with Matip coming in second and Mane third. my two centre backs were fantastic this season, scoring some vital goals and Matip manged to score eight goals from that position! Personally I would go for Divock Origi as Player of the Season, this was the season he made his breakthrough with 31 goals in 33 starts and he's only going to get better! Firminos goal against Everton won Goal of the season and what a goal it was.

Great news coming from the board at the end of the season, we announced plans to improve the training facilties and the youth facilties at the club and we also released plans to expand the stadium!

No less than five players signing new deals at the club, Trent Alexander Arnold and Cameron Brannagan both young players signed long term deals keeping them at the club for the foreseeable future. Origi, Can and Lovren all enjoyed top notch seasons and with just one year left on Lovrens deal and two years left on both Origi and Cans deals, we needed to get them to sign and they're all tied down for their best years.

Plenty of money to spend in the transfer window but the targets I have in mind aren't big money signings, I think it's going to be harder to keep hold of our players after a season like that. Next time find out who we've signed and who's getting sold and we'll also have pre season as we approach our second year.
