LIVERPOOL APPOINT ROOKIE LEGGETT
After Rafa Benitez was sacked at the end of last season, Liverpool have been looking for someone to take over the reins at the club. 25 year-old Dan Leggett has been appointed as Benitez’s replacement. It comes as a complete shock as the manager from Peterborough has no previous experience.
Chairman Thomas Werner said that ‘what he lacks in experience, he makes up for in enthusiasm. We look forward to a long relationship with Dan and hopefully we can improve on our recent results in the league and bring success back to this great club.’
LEGGETT MAKES FIRST SIGNING
New manager Dan Leggett made his first signing as the new Liverpool manager. 20 year-old Jonathan Dos Santos moved to Liverpool from Barcelona after Pep Guardiola made him available for transfer.
Leggett said, “we are excited by the prospect of Jonathan but in the immediate future he will probably go out on loan to get some first team football.”
LIVERPOOL BRING IN HAZARD
Eden Hazard has made the move from Lille to Liverpool in a deal worth about £12 million. The 19 year-old midfielder looks set to be a world-class player. Leggett had this to say, “he can play through the middle or wide left and has a lot of potential. He will be in the first team and will probably be first choice. He is a great player and the lads are happy to have him at the club.”
Spanish striker had this to say on the signing, “he is a good player and I am delighted that he is at Liverpool, I am excited to play with him.”
GENK 0-0 LIVERPOOL (pre-season friendly)
Liverpool missed a lot of chances as Genk held them to a goalless draw.
CHARLTON 3-6 LIVERPOOL (pre-season friendly)
David N’Gog scored a brace as Liverpool came from behind to be victorious in this 9 goal thriller at The Valley.
Yado Mambo had given the League 1 team the lead early on but this was cancelled out by N’Gog. Akpo Sodje then scored two in 15 minutes to give Charlton a 2 goal lead at half-time.
Goals from defenders Daniel Agger and Fabio Aurelio put Liverpool on level terms before new acquisition Eden Hazard completed the comeback on 74 minutes, Liverpool had turned the game on its head in just 10 minutes. Late goals from N’Gog and Jonathan Dos Santos late on gave Liverpool their first win of pre-season.
HERTHA BERLIN 3-1 LIVERPOOL (pre-season friendly)
Hertha Berlin showed quality as they beat Premier League side Liverpool. An under strength Liverpool team went behind early before Joe Cole equalised, then Hertha Berlin scored 2 and ran out 3-1 winners.
Pre-season reviewResults:
Genk 0-0 Liverpool
Charlton 3-6 Liverpool
Hertha Berlin 3-1 Liverpool
Pre-season looks promising and I am happy with my acquisitions, I am also working on bringing in another player to strengthen the squad.
