To be honest mate just keep things really simple at Lower League level. Stretch yourself to maybe 1-2 specialist roles (e.g False 9, DLP, AP etc etc) and then the rest of the roles really simple. I'd probably stick with a Fluid mentality, I feel it's the best for "underdogs". Last I managed LLM I had SK/S; WB/A, DC/D, DC/D, WB/S; DMC/D; MC/S, MC/A; IF/S, IF/A; F9/S.
Also I found that going out and getting the best GK and Striker you can at a lower league goes a very long way. The amount of times a good GK has made match winning saves or a striker pounding in 25-30 goals a season to help promoting a side I've managed is a given. The higher you go the better you can strengthen the "Spine" with a strong defender, creative midfielder and destroyer to make you even better.
